City manager to lead Rotarians

Leon Churchill conducted his first meeting as president of the Tracy Rotary Club this week as he begins a one-year term heading the local service club.

Churchill, Tracy’s city manager, was installed with other club officers in late June at the home of John and Karen Edwards.

Joining him were Nelson Hu, president-elect; Staci Rocha, vice president; Kal Waetzig, secretary; Herve Chevaillier, treasurer; and Karen Edwards, Dave Tillman, Germane Friends, Mark Church and Kelly Wilson, directors.

Chevaillier is outgoing president of the 50-member service club, established in 1929.

Looking forward to the coming Rotary year, Churchill sees new initiatives in community service, especially in education, and renewed involvement in international projects.

Churchill came to Tracy in May 2008 to become Tracy’s city manager. He holds a bachelor’s degree in city planning from the University of Virginia and a master’s in public administration from the University of Kansas.

Before Tracy, he was managing director of the city of Reading, Pa.
