Tracy 8, Kerman 6
The Tracy and Kerman all-stars played a close contest on Thursday in Bakersfield to move the Tracy Babe Ruth All-Stars a step closer to the championship bracket. Tracy’s 8-6 win puts the team in Friday’s game against Central Coast, with the winner to play again Friday night for a chance to advance to Saturday’s championship game.
Tracy got on the scoreboard in the top of the first when Michael Mendonca walked and Chandlyr Metal homered over the left-center fence. Kerman came back with a run in the bottom of the first and another in the second, and Tracy made it a 3-2 game in the top of the third after Mendonca singled and advanced to third on a balk and a stolen base, and scored when Metal grounded out. Kerman responded with a two-run inning in the bottom of the third.
Tracy’s three-run fourth inning included a single for Louie Gutierrez and a double for Brandon Zaunbrecher. Mendonca singled to bring in Gutierrez, and Metal got his fourth and fifth RBI’s of the day when he singled to bring in Zaunbrecher and Mendonca. Elijah Brown also singled in the fourth inning.
Gutierrez singled and Zaunbrecher doubled for another run in the fifth, and Mendonca led off the sixth with a solo home run to make it an 8-4 game, with Kerman scoring two more in the bottom of the sixth.
Starting pitcher Chandlyr Metal allowed seven hits four runs in 2 2/3 innings and struck out five batters. Mendonca got the win, pitching 2 1/3 innings and allowing two hits, no runs and striking out five batters. Damon Noe and Brown pitched the sixth inning, with Brown getting the save.
Bullard 5, Tracy 2
Tracy was limited to six hits on Wednesday in a loss to Bullard. Bullard was ahead 3-0 when Tracy scored in the bottom of the third inning after Seth Strope walked , Brandon Zaunbrecher singled and Damon Noe hit a sacrifice fly to score Strope. Bullard had a 5-1 lead in the sixth inning, and in the bottom of the sixth Michael Mendonca singled with one out, stole second and scored on a pitcher error, but Tracy was unable to get any more runners on base. Zaunbrecher had two hits in all, Haiden Hall had two hits and Chandlyr Metal had a hit. Mendonca and Metal pitched for Tracy.
