Local Roundup: Brawlers take first at Nations Spring Opener

The Tracy Brawlers, including players from Tracy Babe Ruth’s 7-8 division teams, went 3-0 in the Nations Baseball Spring Opener on April 10 at the Tracy Sports Complex.

The Brawlers took the title in the 9U Select Division after they outscored their opponents, the Livermore Sliders and Nor Cal Trojans, 31-5 throughout the competition, including a 12-2 win in the championship game against the Trojans.

The Brawlers’ Austin Orr hit two home runs for the day, and Anthony Landa, Marcus Corso, Landon Bryant, Tyson Dawson, Andy Castro-Chavez and Will Mendonca also hit home runs. The roster also includes Robert Crivello, Chantez Herrera, Derek Saenz, Nick Lavasseur, Jason Reyes, Hayden Throckmorton, Christian Manglona, and Miguel Lomeli. Team manager is Joe Corso, and the coach is Sam Crivello.

Wrestlers medal in Livermore, Merced

Tracy USA Wrestling Club traveled to Livermore on Saturday, April 16, for competition in the Mount Diablo Wrestling Association. Wrestlers who collected medals included:

High School Divisions: Amrit Singh, first in Greco, first in Freestyle; Albert Landeros, third in Greco, second in Freestyle

Middle School Division: Angel Castillo, second in Freestyle.

Elementary Division: Gregory Viloria first in Greco, first in Freestyle; Micah Viloria, first in Freestyle; Vanden Caudillo, second in Freestyle.

Wrestlers traveling to Merced for San Joaquin Wrestling Association competition were:

High School Divisions: Zach Blackwell, first in Greco, first in Freestyle; Trent Nicholson, first in Greco, first in Freestyle; Gage Chavez, third in Greco, second in Freestyle

Middle School Division: Noah Blackwell, first in Greco, second in Freestyle

Elementary Divisions: Eli Blackwell, second in Greco, first in Freestyle; Riley Revino, third in Freestyle.

Fireballs logs wins in Manteca and Tracy

The Tracy Futbol Club U13 Fireballs gained the top seed in the playoffs of the Big League Dreams indoor league with a 10-2 win Sunday, April 17, over the U14 Tracy Triumph. Tiffani Edwards and Ashley Hallen scored three goals each and Katie Locke and Bella Cardenas also scored goals.

The Fireballs also got a 3-0 win over the Cal Cougars Saturday, April 16, in their second game of NorCal Premiere Soccer U13 Gold play at Plasencia Fields. Ashley Hallen, Katie Locke and Bella Cardenas all scored and Tiffani Edwards and Alexis Phillips had assists. Meghan Robinson had some great shots, and Alissa Henneman, Jacqui Frizzi, Miriah Jefferys and Christina Suarez shut down the Cougars on defense, with goalie Taylor Boren posting the shutout.
