Tracy’s Junior Miss program will take on a new name and a different venue as 14 Tracy high school students will vie for scholarships at the program on April 30, a Saturday.

The national Junior Miss organization changed the name to the Distinguished Young Women in an effort to differentiate themselves from other pageants.

This will be the 40th year that the program sponsored by the Kiwanis Club will be held in Tracy for high school junior girls heading into their senior year. The program gives out scholarships for different parts of the program from talent to academic achievement. It has given out thousands of dollars in scholarships throughout the years.

With the program’s name change, this will be the first year that a Tracy Distinguished Young Woman will be crowned at Kimball High’s performing arts theater. The program will begin at 7 p.m.

Tickets for the show are $15 and are available at Richard’s Men’s Wear, 70 W. 10th St., and at Sunday practice sessions, leading up to the pageant, at the Elks Lodge, 6400 W 11 St.
