Piper, a long-legged 10-month-old dachshund mix, joined East of Eden rescuers from the Tracy Animal Shelter along with her mother, Margie, and littermates, Daphney, Crissy, Haley and Gavin. Piper sleeps in a crate at night and is working on her housebreaking. She is spayed, microchipped and current on vaccinations and deworming.

• East of Eden is a nonprofit animal rescue organization. Its volunteers are at Petco, 2888 Grant Line Road, from noon to 3 p.m. Saturdays. For information, call 815-5186.
