Early this week, a building between Marshall’s and WinCo Foods buzzed with workers preparing for the opening of a new Ross clothing store.

At the same time, employees at the current Ross in the West Valley Mall were preparing to close up shop.

The discount clothier will shutter its West Valley Mall store on Friday, Feb. 25, according to an employee working there Monday, Feb. 21. Employees will be back on the job, however, on March 4, when the new store will open off Pavilion Parkway near the auto mall. A grand opening is planned for March 5.

It’s unknown, though, what will become of the vacant storefront in the mall.

Management for the West Valley Mall had not returned phone calls seeking comment as of 1 p.m. today.

Why would you want to add more to the outlet mall when the customer base is not available. if they are bulding one in livermore i'm sure the base is there.

Hopefully Ross management will get with the program (like Marshalls) and present it's consumers with a clean shopping enviorment. I love the deals at Ross, just didn't care for the thrift store appearance. Actually our Goodwill in Tracy has always been clean, just a little pricey in these bad economic times.

I know perfectly well where the Outlet Mall is, and shop there often. Van Heusen, Gap, Tuesday Morning and two terrific baby clothing stores. So sorry we lost Liz Claiborne, Mikasa, and the Paper Factory. If you read my post you will realize that is what I meant. The resources are there, utilize and build that up. A perfect spot to bring in much needed consumer dollars to a quickly emptying city coffer.

I believe we already have an outlet mall. Half of it is completely built out an they struggle ta get tennets. Th other half is still a dirt field.

An ya honestly want ta spend more taxpayer dollars ta build another outlet mall when we already have one strugglin ta keep open?

Assumin ya don't know we already have an outlet mall, it's over on MacArthur up next ta I205. Been thair a long time too.

Livermore can have that outlet mall. They can also have the traffic that goes with it. I don't know if our city manager is doing what he/she should be but bringing in more businesses does not strike me as a positive. We already have more than enough stores to shop in.

In bigger news, today it was announced that Livermore (at El Charro) will be building a very nice, new outlet mall. Why did we not get that offer? A great site is already available. What is our city manager doing for that high salary? I think this is another nail in our shopping coffin.

Before anyone starts with this is the end of the mall bit, the person who told me last year about Ross moving next to Marshalls last year before the announcement was made to the public also told me that the mall was in negotiations with a possible new tenant to move into the Ross location. However since the official papers have yet to be signed, I was told if I said who might be moving in they would cut out my tongue. Which will then make it very difficult for me to lick envelops and ice cream.

It sounds like Marshall's will really shine now.

Can someone tell me why it is moving right next to Marshall's? Lame.

Ross was always a mess. Marshall's is always clean.
