Your Voice: Republicans shouldn’t be Democrats-lite

EDITOR,

Should the Republican Party change its philosophy in California? After sanity swept the nation to repeal the socialist movement of the Democrat Party, insanity remained strong in the Socialist Republic of California. With a biased left-leaning media and educational system, a heavy union-based workforce, a large number of individuals dependent on government needs and services, and a government-friendly system to entice illegal immigrants with free programs and assistance, California has removed itself from being known as the Golden State to the Welfare State.

Businesses are closing or moving to another state or country, making California’s unemployment rate the highest in the nation. As a result, the tax base has decreased while those expecting more from government has increased, creating a huge problem for California. This is a huge problem the Democrats have created for themselves, and the Democrats have to take full responsibility without blaming the Republicans.

The last election showed through various propositions that people are against taxes and fee increases.

When the Democrats steamroll through taxes and frustration erupts, the people will not just recall a governor but finally turn from a party that has ruined the state. At that point, the Republican Party will be the alternative to save the state. Until then, the Republican Party should not become a mini Democratic Party wanting to appear the same, but should stand on clear principles of national security, low taxes, individual responsibility and limited government through reduced spending and exposing government waste.

LMAO again the pubs transferring and projecting their own inadequacies on others...From a former pub that repudiated this type of advocacy,,and not a dem yet..I still see the dems with more integrity than the pubs continuing the Rove Atwater..get the ignorant into the party,,they love fiction not fact.

We can certainly see how the

Foreign owned Chamber of Commerce is now pulling the strings in our National government..talk about steamrolling through programs that increase our deficit> for our grandchildren to pay? holding the people hostage for 2% of the very wealthiest. Holding the 911 responders hostage without medical help due to our companies working as foreign interests and the tax loophole..see what they are insisting on for these companies to continue with the tax loophole..

Mr. Aquila's comments are both accurate and optomistic; that the Republicans will come into power and save the State. As an "R", I would favor that solution. But, I don't think we have the two years to make that happen. The economic problems of California are immediate and they require immediate solutions.

California's current year and future deficits are going to severely challenge the Legislature and Governor. Their options are few and will defire the future of our state.

One option will be to increase taxes to close the gap. Economics and history has shown that this will only cause a flight of jobs and wealth to other states or countries. One local company will soon close down and take its 300 jobs a nearby state with lower taxes and less regulation.

A second option will be to severely cut the deficit. This would be the most prudent option, but I doubt the Democratic leadership has the political will to follow this course.

A bailout from the Feds? Not likely with the Republicans in charge of the House.

The only other option will be insolvency under Chapter 9 of the bankruptcy code. This will place the entire mess in the hands of a Judge. Likely losers will be the bondholders, public pensioners, and many on the public payroll.

You think it's bad now, just wait.

TracyGuy, great point. I'm the same way. I have plenty of families who are in Unions, and they get screwed constantly!!! California is run on Unions so why should those who are in one, or know someone in one, or who value the state vote in any favor of someone who wants to force them to strike, and put California on hold?! Thats just dumb! So for those who are so 'against' unions... don't complain when you call 911 and they take hours to come, don't complain when you sit in line at the doctors office or the ER for hours without being seen, Don't complain about long lines at the DMV or waiting for hours, or your license taking weeks over the usual now to come in the mail...

I think it's time we stand up and be intelligent!!! Don't vote for someone because of a title and before you hear the issues, that is just ignorant... Vote for WHO can do a better job regardless of political party, and don't vote someone who looks like a Star on TV and promises false hope and 'change' some change huh??? That is what happens when you vote for a title not a person, we are left with idiots running this country...

I'm proud California had the guts to stand up against everyone else and vote the RIGHT way!!!

If your letter didn't sound so one-sided, and willfully ignorant to facts, I might have taken it seriously. The problem with anyone that claims one political party, over another, is that they cannot be trusted to provide fair, accurate, and complete information on any topic that crosses their lips. This is no exception. Personally, I have not claimed a party, and have no intention of doing so. I vote during every single election, and vote on what is best for the state. Not what is best for the Republicans, not what is best for the Democrats, Liberals, or any other specific party. I think that makes me a clear minority, but I tend to put others before myself in my every day life, so why wouldn't I do the same for my home state?
