A woman was killed on Interstate 580 south of Tracy when she was thrown from a van during a rollover crash just before 8 a.m. today.

According to California Highway Patrol officer Shellie McCrary, the van was traveling eastbound on I-580 east of Chrisman Road when the driver lost control. The van overturned, throwing a woman passenger from the vehicle, killing her.

Seven other people in the van were hurt in the crash, with injuries listed from minor to life-threatening. Two helicopters were landed at the scene to transport victims to area hospitals.

All eastbound lanes were blocked following the crash, as traffic was diverted to eastbound Highway 132, where motorists could soon connect with Interstate 5. The freeway was reopened at about 10:40 a.m.

The CHP is investigating the crash to find out why the driver lost control.
