Four tennis players headed to section competition

Tracy High’s tennis team will send three players to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I individual tournament, and Kimball High will send one of its players to the section’s Division II tournament.

Tracy High’s Renata Guzman won the San Joaquin Athletic Association singles tournament on Friday at In-Shape Sports Club - Marina, in Stockton. Guzman won the final over Audrey Simon of Lodi High, 6-4, 6-4. Guzman next heads to the Division I tournament on Thursday, Nov. 4, at the Laguna Creek Racquet Club in Elk Grove. Finals will be on Friday, Nov. 5.

Guzman beat her opponent from Bear Creek High 10-2 in the first round, then defeated her teammate Chiara Adamo 10-7 in the quarterfinals. She then beat Krista Rey of Lincoln 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) in the semifinals to make it to Friday’s final match.

Tracy will also send the doubles team of Adamo and Michelle Kouda to the section tournament. They beat the Lodi team of Anna Adams and Jacque Lord in the final, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.

They made the finals with a win over Lodi’s number-three team, 10-3, over Chavez’ number-two teams 10-0, and over Lincoln’s number-one team 6-3, 6-4.

Kimball High will send singles player Pyper Brown to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II tournament Nov. 4 and 5 at Johnson Ranch Racquet Club in Roseville. Brown won her championship match 6-0, 6-1 over Vennida Nguyen of Sierra High. They competed at Manteca Golf and Tennis on Tuesday and Thursday.

Other results for Tracy include: Kouda beat Lincoln’s Ashley Bones 10-6 in the first round and lost to the Lodi’s Simon, 10-2 in the quarterfinals. Adamo defeated her opponent from Chavez in the first round 10-0 and then lost to teammate Guzman 10-7 in the quarterfinals.

In the doubles, Paige Johnson and Aubrey Boehm won their first round match over their Lodi opponents 10-4, and then lost to Lincoln’s number-two team 10-7 in the quarterfinals. Rebecca Reinen and Cassidy Dolstra beat Franklin’s number-one doubles team 10-2 in the first round, and lost to Lincoln’s number-one team 9-10 (7-4) in the quarterfinals.

Other singles players from Kimball include Andrea Candalla who won her first round 8-3, lost her second round 6-8; and Krishna Sankara, who won her first round 8-2, lost her second round 6-8.

Doubles players from Kimball were: Andrea Candalla and Krishna Sankara won their first round 8-2, lost second round 4-8; Perliza Delgado and Aloukika Shah lost their first round 3-8; and Natasha Cardoso and Ally Bangayan won their first round 8-2, lost the second round 0-8.

West High’s tennis players begin their individual Tri-City Athletic League tournament on Thursday, Oct. 28, at In-Shape Sports Club – West Lane, with singles on Thursday and doubles on Friday.
