STOCKTON — Melissa Huckaby will be back in court June 12 and entered no plea at an arraignment today so her public defender can have more time to go over evidence against her.
The 28-year-old former Sunday school teacher is accused of the murder, rape, and kidnapping of Sandra Cantu, 8, who disappeared March 27 from the Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park where Sandra and Huckaby both lived.
Public defender Sam Behar told Judge Linda L. Lofthus that he needs more time review 1,000 pages of discovery prosecutors recently gave him.
He said he also wanted to go over evidence having to do with records from a home computer and a silver Cadillac.
Prosecutors on Thursday added new charges against Huckaby, accusing her of trying to poison a 7-year-old girl in January as well as a man named Daniel Plowman in March. Mobile home park resident Lora Polk said she told police in January that her 7-year-old daughter was drugged by Huckaby, who took the girl for four hours to a park without the mother's permission.
Huckaby faces the death penalty if convicted.
The only accident is MH being alive, she was an abortion gone wrong.
If you recall on the video of Sandra skipping, then she was called by someone in the direction of MH home. That is the moment MH had the plan. That is the moment when she decided to do something to Sandra. Having that suitcase ready was no accident.
Maybe she gave Sandra too much muscle relaxers and she overdosed, but even entertaining that thought it was no accident. raping and molesting can never be considered accident.
The worthless POS (MH) is sick!
There are a couple of problems with this sort of defense. 1) If it was an "accident", then why would she go to such great lengths to hide Sandra's body? 2) If it was an accident, why did she lie after Sandra's death, saying she had not seen her? 3) After 1 & 2, who seriously believes a word that comes out of this child-murderer's mouth?
Was referring to Sandra Cantu being stuffed in a suitcase.
Thanks.
Is anyone SURE it was premediated.... no.
Is anyone SURE that she had lied, set fire to the house, poisoned a man... besides killing Sandra..... we are pretty much sure the past pretty much speaks her state of mind?
If found NOT guilty due to "ACCIDENT" I hope the defendant takes her home with him/her to live with their own family.
Is the defendant SURE she is not dangerous?
will see...
What I found offensive is the people feeling some sympathy for MH and forego the knowledge that she had been STUFFED in a suitcase, how respectful of a child's life!!???
Planning went into it? No?
And again... I should add I didn't want to imply MH's mom "didn't do" anything if something happened to MH when she was young - I was thinking more about pressure to keep it quiet.
Yeah, there's getting to be some personal emotion on this forum. I try to keep mine out and stick with facts. It's amazing how some "rumors" at the park were confirmed much later - like the Polk girl drugging and swallowing razor blades (I thought the latter was too far out, but it seems true now). Overall, this has been a good group since the beginning.
As for those who are attacking me...oooh it hurts! LOL.....Please save your insults. I make a comment about the issues, the article or what I think. I do not make any comments about other people who wish to share their opinion. But I will respond by laughing and maybe a little critic if you attack me.
If Miss America was accused of such a horrific crime...then I would say she is butt ugly. That is my opinion of bad people. I can not longer look at someone in the same way after they do commit horror. Even if someone with nice looks treats me bad...I would feel and think they are ugly people....So MH to me is a monster, when I see her, I see a creature I would tell people to run from. I see her ugly mutt look and I hate her! I see her and my heart hurts really bad thinking of what she did.
How pretty you think she looked like when she killed Sandra? TELL ME..UH?
MH family is very suspicious TO ME..being so close to Sandra, they didn't cry, they weren't at the vigils, they did not go looking for Sandra.. and they act like there was nothing ever wrong with MH. She was so wonderful huh? Where was the family when she was caught stealing, where was the family when she was supposedly raped by a officer, where was the family when she had to live in a community home, where was the family when she accuses her ex of drugs and child abduction? Where was the family when she swollowed razor blades? where was the family when she drove herself to the police station for questioning? wouldn't a family worry a little about her coming out of the hospital and driving alone, especially to be questioned for a serious crime?
And I didn't mean to imply that MH's mother (Joyce) did anything bad, but if something bad had happened to MH, she may not have done something about it. The MH family has seemed to ignore/deny facts in effort to keep a clean appearance (this isn't unusual with churches and the MH family seems deep in churches/pastors - the Catholic church certainly did its share until things got undeniable).
The issue is no longer so much IF MH did it, as how she got to the point of doing something like this (it was escalating with the Polk girl getting drugged, and drugging the adult). There is no excuse for MH, but hopefully it will make others watch for signs (and deal with it/get help) to avoid turning a person into a monster. I still suspect a childhood experience (molestation) had something to do with this and that MH had to suppress it. Suicidal thoughts at age 12 are very unusual.
An article today said one of MH's high school friends said MH argued frequently with her mother - not so odd for a teenager, but nothing about MH's childhood was ever mentioned by the family (only info since the divorce), and MH's mother has been absent during all this (aside from wanting custody for Madison).
I also keep wondering about investigators going to the Washington church (current pastor said ~"something happened there long ago that no one talks about anymore") to ask about a previous alleged molestation case. No arrests were made, but I learned that the statute of limitations on child molestation in Washington is 10 years, so even if something was uncovered, no one could be arrested (this is not the case if a death occurs). Seems everyone who may have been involved with that in the 80s is gone now, so it's understandable that the congregation wants to put it aside; though it WAS NOT okay to put aside anything when it happened.

...Prosecutors MORE time to show the evidence points clearly to MH.
When you, lawyers or even spouses of lawyers, think of MH rights, think of Sandra's rights? Where are the people who would speak for her?? Her family??
MH is DANGEROUS, if the defendant thinks otherwise, she/he could take her home under "house arrest" and pray that she does not set the house on fire?
shelly13, this is a case we are watching closely and many here have rolled their eyes at certain person's responses....and agreeing with people who see things as you do..
Did you find out who swiped a piece of my cotton candy? :)
Have always wondered how the heck she gets those chemicals, drugs, poison to do harm or whatever to the people. How did she get her hands on them?
Internet ordered? Well, hope they will look at the browser history of her puter? Given to her to use in the diabolic plans in exploiting children?
I agree, there may be TMA clone in here?
CN where are you?
The facts will come out. She will be found guilty and go to jail or possibly to a mental health facility.
Uh, she admitted to killing her stating it was an accident. Don't forget that. Let's say it was an "accident". We will have to see what that entailed. However, she will still go to jail for the crime of covering it up, supplying the police with false info, etc. There is much more to this story, that when it comes out, we are all gonna be more angry, I know it.
We dont want to just lynch someone. We want the truth and it will come out. Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction and I think this may fall under that category.
As for the defense, they are not stalling. New charges were just brought against their client. They need time to go over it and possibly change their strategy. That is the right thing to do (other than her just pleading guilty and telling the truth and asking forgivenss - but that won't happen). Unfortunatley, our court system is not perfect. They should always go after the truth instead of trying to put win notches on their bedposts.
MH - not pretty, not ugly - her insides are sick and ugly - but outside she looks pretty normal and that is what is scary. You never know who is capable of what. But there did seem to be some red flags with this one.
Let's all wait and see the facts. It will make for an interesting trial that is for sure. Boy would I love to be a fly on that wall.
You my dear might be immune to your face, but I got a feeling your no ez on eyes either.
HA HA you got some issues attacking me, and defending your poor pretty face MH...>LMAO
