Maxine ‘Mackie’ Collins

A celebration of life will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, at the First Presbyterian Church, 101 Berverdor Ave., for Maxine “Mackie” Collins, 83, a former Tracy resident and onetime manager of the Tracy Chamber of Commerce.

Mrs. Collins died Saturday, May 12, in a Sonora convalescent hospital. She was born Aug. 12, 1928.

A native of Oakland, she graduated from San Leandro High School and College of the Pacific, where she received a degree in art.

Mrs. Collins moved to Tracy in 1954 and lived in Tracy for 50 years before moving to Columbia, Tuolumne County. While in Tracy, she was manager of the Tracy Chamber of Commerce, secretary for the First Presbyterian Church, owner of Shaw’s Ice Cream & Candy and substitute teacher for the Tracy Elementary School District.

Survivors include her husband, Dale Collins of Columbia; a son, Randy Diamant, and his wife, Judi, of Tracy, two stepsons, Doug Collins, and his wife, Florence, of Phoenix and Steve Collins, and his wife, Sue, of Lusk, Wyo.; and a stepdaughter, Janie Bakalian of Lusk, Wyo.

Also surviving are a brother, Robert “Pete” Peterson, and his wife, Jenny, of Oxbow; a sister, Audrey Addiego of Palm Desert; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her first husband, George Diamant, and a daughter, Terri Diamant.

The family prefers memorial contributions to a charity of the donor’s choice.
