The Tracy Buccaneers hosted their first games of the Delta Youth Sports Association season against the Galt Junior Warriors at Tracy High’s Wayne Schneider Stadium Saturday. The Buccs won all four games.
Starts: Buccaneers 35, Warriors 6
The Starts 35-6 win started off with Theodore Williams’ 60 yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage. Williams led the offense with 68 yards on four carries and two touchdowns. Tavio Meeks, Tai Fetui, and Tyson Dawson also scored a touchdown each and each rushed for more than 50 yards. Derek Saenz and Nicholas Coronado led the Buccs’ defense with seven tackles each, and Tai Fetui made an interception.
Rookies: Buccaneers 32, Warriors 0
The Buccaneers (1-0) started Saturday’s game with Michael Pearson’s 38-yard touchdown run at the start of the first quarter. Quarterback Joshua Alvarado ran in the conversion. Pearson ran in another from the Warriors’ 5-yard line to make it a 13-0 game at the end of the first quarter. Khyrei Currie intercepted a pass late in the second quarter and the Buccs followed it up with a 15-yard touchdown run for Alvarado, who also ran in the conversion to make it 20-0 at the half.
Pearson had another big run in the fourth quarter to set up a 2-yard touchdown push for Quinn. Matthew McGowan forced a fumble and Alvarado picked it up to set up the Bucc’s final score of a game, a 61-yard touchdown run for Quinn to make it 32-0.
Leading defenders for the Buccs were Trevor Pope, and Currie with four tackles each.
Junior Varsity: Buccaneers 7, Warriors 0
The Junior Varsity Buccs beat the Warriors 7-0, the offense led by Robert Garcia’s 25 yards on six carries. Benjamin Oubre covered 21 yards on four carries, and James Jones had 14 yards on two carries. Quarterback Jake Dunnaway completed a 29-yard pass to Drew Tavares. On defense Sal Jacques and Andrew Maroulas each had an interception, Ryan Rivera made seven tackles, Jacquez and Maroulas had five tackles each and Garcia had four tackles.
Varsity: Buccaneers 26, Warriors 8
The Varsity Buccs covered 210 yards rushing on Saturday, led by Brandon Zaunbracker with 177 yards on seven carries for four touchdowns. Tyler Fraetus led on defense with six tackles. Kevin Saenz, Courtney Hawkins, and Katari Edwards each had five tackles.
Panther Youth Football
The Panthers opened their season Saturday at West High’s Steve Lopez Stadium, hosting the Ripon Chiefs in Trans Valley Youth Football League action.
The Novice team opened with a 13-6 win, while the Junior Varsity took a 20-6 loss and the Varsity Panthers lost 49-8. The TVYFL does not keep score for Junior Novice games.
Novice: Panthers 13, Chiefs 6
After a scoreless first quarter, the Panthers got on the board at the start of the second quarter with Isaiah Woods’ 56-yard touchdown run. Angelo Ortega ran in the conversion to put the Panthers up 7-0. The Chief’s Roland Davis scored on a 70-yard run at the end of the third quarter, but his team missed the conversion, which allowed the Panthers to keep the lead at 7-6. The Panther defense turned back the Chiefs in the fourth quarter, with Ortega picking up a couple fumbles. One of those turnovers set up a second touchdown for the Panthers as James MacDonald made a 39-yard run to the end zone to make it a 13-6 game.
Teams have not reported details for the Junior Novice, Junior Varsity and Varsity games.
