EDITOR,

The president’s speech and press conference this week could not have been more clear:

Americans need health care reform soon.

My family, with a chronically ill member, is being squeezed financially by insurance premiums and deductibles. I also support my in-laws, whose Social Security benefits some months do not even cover their medications.

The current prescription-benefit program has proved costly and inadequate. I urge my fellow Americans to express their support for President Obama’s three basic reform principles by calling and e-mailing their representatives in Washington, D.C.

Jim Bristow,

This rform is not socialized medicine. Private insurers will be included. They currently rake in billions limiting healthcare to millions of us. They are not likely to fold up shop and go away. They will be part of the new system. Medicare will change with or without reform. Cutbacks and shifting costs on to elderly people. The young and healthy will be able to purchase affordable insurance on their own. The poor and elederly will not. I urse citizens to let your representives know you are in favor of reform including the public option. The stakes are too high and the loudest voices will have their way. Please act.

Jim Bristow is right on the money. It's too bad everyone who beleives in Obama's healthcare reform "the magic pill" doesn't care to realize there are major side effects.

To Shelly13 "what is wrong with socialized medicine?" I'll tell you, IT"S SOCIALISM!

What is wrong with Socialized medicine??? Other countries do it and do it well!

Oh, the problem is our government...yes, I don't think they could handle it unless they go off a model from one of the other country's that do it well.

The should'nt try to "re-invent" the wheel. They need to meet with these other countries and put together a program like theirs.

As for the illegal aliens??? Send them home!

I knew Obama is not well versed in medical insurance, pills and difference in pills and prices.

He said,"what is the difference between blue pill and red pill"? I say the color is the only difference.

If he were knowledgeable he would have asked, "what is the difference between Brand name pill and Generic pills". Big difference would be in the price.

Designer named jeans would cost more than plain jeans. No?

So, I am not at all that confident Obama knows what he is talking about half the time?

Obamacare is Socialized medicine. You can believe all the governmental and media hype you want; but for those who want the truth, seek your information elsewhere. The bill is as follows:

Pg. 29 states that your health care will be rationed!

Page 30: A government committee will decide what treatments and benefits you get (and, unlike an insurer, there will be no appeals process)

Page 42: The "Health Choices Commissioner" will decide health benefits for you. You will have no choice. None.

Page 50: All non-US citizens, illegal or not, will be provided free healthcare services.

Page 58: Every person will be issued a National ID Healthcard.

Page 59: The federal government will have direct, real-time access to all individual bank accounts for electronic funds transfer.

Page 65: Taxpayers will subsidize all union retiree and community organizer health plans (read: SEIU, UAW and ACORN)

Page 72: All private healthcare plans must conform to government rules to participate in a Healthcare Exchange.

Page 84: All private healthcare plans must participate in the Healthcare Exchange (i.e., total government control of private plans)

Page 91: Government mandates linguistic infrastructure for services; translation: illegal aliens.

Page 95: The Government will pay ACORN and Americorps to sign up individuals for Government-run Health Care plan.

Page 102: Those eligible for Medicaid will be automatically enrolled: you have no choice in the matter.

Page 124: No company can sue the government for price-fixing. No "judicial review" is permitted against the government monopoly. Put simply, private insurers will be crushed.

Page 145: An employer MUST auto-enroll employees into the government-run public plan. No alternatives.

Page 149: Any employer with a payroll of $400K or more, who does not offer the public option, pays an 8% tax on payroll

Page 150: Any employer with a payroll of $250K-400K or more, who does not offer the public option, pays a 2 to 6% tax on payroll

Page 167: Any individual who doesn't' have acceptable healthcare (according to the government) will be taxed 2.5% of income.

Page 170: Any NON-RESIDENT alien is exempt from individual taxes (Americans will pay for them).

Page 195: Officers and employees of Government Healthcare Bureaucracy will have access to ALL American financial and personal records.

Page 203: "The tax imposed under this section shall not be treated as tax." Yes, it really says that.

Page 239: Bill will reduce physician services for Medicaid. Seniors and the poor most affected."

Page 241: Doctors: no matter what specialty you have, you'll all be paid the same.

Page 253: Government sets value of doctors' time, their professional judgment, etc.

Page 265: Government mandates and controls productivity for private healthcare industries.

Page 268: Government regulates rental and purchase of power-driven wheelchairs.

Page 272: Cancer patients: welcome to the wonderful world of rationing!

Page 280: Hospitals will be penalized for what the government deems preventable re-admissions.

Page 298: Doctors: if you treat a patient during an initial admission that results in a readmission, you will be penalized by the government.

Page 318: Prohibition on hospital expansion. Hospitals cannot expand without government approval.

Page 321: Hospital expansion hinges on "community" input: in other words, yet another payoff for ACORN.

Page 335: Government mandates establishment of outcome-based measures: i.e., rationing.

Page 341: Government has authority to disqualify Medicare Advantage Plans, HMOs, etc.

Page 354: Government will restrict enrollment of SPECIAL NEEDS individuals.

Page 425: Government will instruct and consult regarding living wills, durable powers of attorney, etc. Mandatory. Appears to lock in estate taxes ahead of time.

Page 425: Government provides approved list of end-of-life resources, guiding you in death

Page 427: Government mandates program that orders end-of-life treatment; government dictates how your life ends.

Page 429: Advance Care Planning Consult will be used to dictate treatment as patient's health deteriorates. This can include an ORDER for end-of-life plans. An ORDER from the GOVERNMENT.

Page 430: Government will decide what level of treatments you may have at end-of-life.

Page 469: Community-based Home Medical Services: more payoffs for ACORN.

Page 472: Payments to Community-based organizations: more payoffs for ACORN.

Page 489: Government will cover marriage and family therapy. Government intervenes in your marriage.

Page 494: Government will cover mental health services: defining, creating and rationing those services.

Anyone who thinks this gargantuan and costly plan is better than merely repairing private healthcare and Medicare is 'dying in a dreamworld!'

Jim thanks for the definition but I don't see where type of care is a polical one or where politicians will campaign on health care promises. This seems more like speculation or opinion as apposed to what I see in writing. As I said in my previous post my current health practicianer asks me the very same questions much more frequently than every 5 years. This is common sense as your wishes for long term care can change with your health status.

I would go by what Obama's doctor of 20 years says:

Thanks for the link. As I stated in my previous comment, the bill extends the current medicare regulation, redefining the "term ‘advance care planning consultation’ to mean a consultation between the individual and a practitioner. It goes on to say that the consult will be given every 5 years minimum, and more often if your health changes, and "include the following ‘‘An explanation by the practitioner of advance care planning, including...an explanation by the practitioner of the continuum of end-of-life services and supports available, including palliative care and hospice.

And while you are alive, the issue of what type of care the government can afford to give you will be a political one.

Like in our current system where things like new freeways and road repairs are campaign promises, politicians will campaign on promises of getting you an MRI or cancer treatment.

Although HR 3200 is a lengthy bill and requires more reading, here is what I get about page 425 through 430. End of life care meaning not ending your life as if it were your obligation rather advanced directive planning based apon the patient's wishes. This is something my current health insurer asks me to update frequently. Issues like whether you want to be kept alive on machines, who you designate power of attorney and options your prefer regarding long term care should you be unable to communicate with your doctors. Here is a link to the bill which of course is still a work in progress.

If you are reading the 1000 page plan, check page 425, Congress would make it mandatory that every five years people in Medicare have a required counseling session. They will tell you how to end your life sooner.

The proposal specifically calls for the consultation to recommend "palliative care and hospice" for seniors in their mandatory counseling sessions.

I will attempt to help. If you have an elderly, frail, or terminally ill family member, you may want to OPPOSE Obama's health plan. According to the Wall Street Journal (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970203517304574303903498159292.html) Obama wants "comparative effectiveness research", which is government-speak for do you really need that treament, or are you going to die soon enough anyway?

I've called Jerry McNerney's office as well as Senators Fienstien and Boxer. All are officially undecided on the issue but appreciated my opinion in support of health care reform. We who would like to see reform happen must get active and voice our support. The stakes are too high. Please call your Congressional representives today.

It is important for all to read this article

http://www.savingamericanlives.org/

Our citizens are our most important resource and our leaders have failed them in the area of health care.

22,000! That is how many Americans die each year because of being uninsured (mostly working Americans and families.) Saving American lives is not a Democratic or a Republican issue. It is an American issue.

We will never pull out of this recession without healthy citizens. Our great leaders got us into it, it is time for the people to pull us out of it.

Call Congressman McNerney and let him know no paid vacation until we have healthcare reform.
