EDITOR,

On May 1 the Occupy Wall Street organization planned protests throughout America. Why has May 1 been a day of protest of left-wing organizations over the years? May 1 is May Day, which is the main holiday of the Communists and socialized governments.

These radicals are pushing for the end of individual freedom and limited government. What they want is expanded government and control. They talk about taxing the rich, but never talk about limiting the expanded role of the government.

America’s greatness is from individual freedom without government interference. These progressive liberal socialists are leading America to its internal death.

Thomas Jefferson warned America that a government big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take away everything you have.

• Editor’s note: Frank Aquila is the president of the South San Joaquin Republicans.

AAAAwwwww, darn it, Frank, your opinion sure spoiled the image of Happy May Day Pole Dressing.

Actually, May Day is Labor Day in many countries. We celebrate ours in September. Communist holiday? Better check to be sure... it is holiday of non communist and communist countries.

Going to conjure up happy image of pretty ribbons around the pole!!

thanks for stating that. This whole extreme on each side is whats tearing this country apart. I was hoping we had seen the end of those days. There is no "center" anymore. This guy is blinded by his own ideology not any allegiance to the Republic as a whole.

"Thomas Jefferson warned America that a government big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take away everything you have."

Um, no. It was Gerald Ford who said that. I wouldn't expect someone who has been accused of plagiarism as many times as Frank to actually check the accuracy of a quote.

Mr. Aquila should be more respectful of history. May Day celebrations go back to ancient times and were originally part of recognizing the beginning of Spring. In the late 1800's American workers began the tradition of using May Day as a time to focus on the needs of working men and women; in the 1880's they were advocating for the eight hour work day. Mr Aquila argues that government should be limited; that usually means reducing regulations. Perhaps Mr. Aquila believes in doing away with an eight hour work day and other changes that required government action.

TPfan needs to get some original thinking ... typical progressive response when confronted with the size and scope of government ... "how bout we leave the old folks out in the cold and push grandma over the cliff..."...

I am soooo tired of these type of responses when the realities of unaffordable and immoral government growth is challenged.

Do we REALLY think that Spain, Ireland, Greece, Italy, Portugal are any differnent than us? The term "Cradle to Grave" was coined post WWII in the UK to boast about the new, benevolent government programs ... created by the same groups that gave us May Day ...

The face of change in Europe today is either Keynes or Socialism ... the governements swing between stimlus and socialism ... Spain is in it's third recession in 10 years ... Germany is not ... why?

Embrace the free markets and quit looking like a FOOL and celebrating the very groups that would bring down our country.
