Your Voice: Government is destroying jobs

EDITOR,

If Americans think today’s economy is in trouble, wait until the Democrats enact their agenda of higher taxes, energy taxes and less energy production, the federal takeover of medicine and more business regulations.

When President Obama pushed his emergency, pork-laden $787 billion stimulus package, he told us unemployment wouldn’t rise above 8 percent. It’s now 10.2 percent and climbing.

Under Obama, we have a $1.4 trillion deficit and frightening projections of $1 trillion each year for the next decade. (Every day we have Obama, President Bush looks better and better.)

On Nov. 11, Emerson CEO David Farr, whose firm makes electrical equipment and garbage disposals, said the U.S. government is hurting manufacturers with regulations and taxes and that his company would continue to focus on growth overseas.

Farr said: “Washington is doing everything in their power, capability, to destroy U.S. manufacturing. Cap and trade, medical reform, labor rules.”

“I’m not going to hire anybody in the United States,” Farr added. “I’m moving. They are doing everything possible to destroy jobs.”

All of these legislative proposals are supported by Obama and congressional Democrats, including our very own leftist, Rep. Jerry McNerney.

In the past 10 months, under Obama, America has lost more than 3 million jobs. Instead of hope and change, all we’re getting is blame and attack — and a worsening economy driven by Democratic big government.

MHarold,

Nowhere did I say I represented any political party or party idealogy. You wasted an entire paragraph ranting about people I have never met. Of course, it's your right to complain, but it clearly has nothing to do with my comment or the letter about our current government destroying jobs.

I also admire that you are attempting damage control in place of our congressman, but I suspect you have done more harm than good. I do feel you could be correct when you write the following?

"we don't have Congressman in City of Tracy"

-Written by MHarold

Be careful. Many people might just agree with you on that point too. And, it probably wont matter if they are Democrats or Republicans either. But, it's your right to be a party line thinker, if that's what you want.

But, it clearly says nothing about why our congressman supports jobs in other cities. Or why our congressman didn't say anything when our TPD was flat out denied FEDERAL funding for all the crime increase we have experienced, IN THE LAST YEAR.

Maybe you were trying to explain to us that Democrats don't care about Republicans? Is that the explanation? If so, I hope you discontinue with that type of thinking. It appears that Democrats have a license to not give a hoot about Tracy?

Let's not hold onto past hatreds. That's very sad commentary. And I don't subscribe to the point of view that we don't have a congressman simply because he is a Democrat, as you put it.

And I would hope our congressman will eventually come to see it differently than yourself?

Everybody wants to blame the poloticians when things don't go the way we would like them to go. The truth of the matter is, maybe its our fault. We like to think that we have made a good choice when we vote for these people. We vote with the hope that they will act on the issues and support the values that are important to us. Yes its true that many of them make promises that they have no intention of keeping or can't keep due to some unforseen circumstances(special interest groups for example), but they will say anything just so we will give them our vote.

Think of it like this,

Voting is like going to the cat house. You make your selection who you would like to do business with, but no matter who you get, someone will give you what you went there for.....

Is polotics/voting any different?

Everybody get used to it. The tax payers of this country have been getting screwed and its not going to stop anytime soon. Republican or Democrat, council member or congressman, it does not matter. WE PAY THE BILL ! It happens at all levels in all the cities, counties and states across this country. It is a slap in the face to those that have served this country and died for us to have the right to vote.

The people may have a voice, but is anybody listening? The cat house just called....

Frosty,

I missed to point out in my last posting that - we don't have Congressman in City of Tracy, he is in 11th District. But, we do have Council member in the City, which is responsible for City's business. They get the blame or credit for City's affair not Congressman.

That's how it was even when Pombo was at the 11th district's helm.

I am not sure why it's so difficult for you to understand such simple distinction.

Frosty,

What chuckles me is the hypocrisy of conservative ideologues.

In one hand, tea baggers (confused conservatives) make full time job out of criticizing democratic politicians, but keep mum when the same thing is done by their own party leaders.

Sexual innuendo, budget deficit, invasion of privacy in a name of national security, is only some of the examples, when you guys have criticized democrats for but kept quite when done by your fellow conservatives.

Do you stand on any principle, or you’re simply channeling your deep rooted anger, derived from somewhere else, by criticizing Democrats.

Once again, Congressman McNerney is not only representing City of Tracy, he’s representing the entire 11th district.

Who got the City’s budget in the mess, McNerney or Ives and Company (The conservative City council)?, who have, in the last five years, spent hundreds of thousands City’s scarce dollars on Serpa and Souza’s residential home development projects, when Tracy is already glutted with residential homes.

Perhaps, some of that money could have been used to hire or retain more police officers today.

Who’s to blame for electing these people again and again for almost several decades? You guys!!!

But as usual, conservative hypocrisy never ceases to end. Instead of blaming the real culprits, who got us in the mess, you’re blaming the congressman because he’s a Democrat. Bravo!!

I don't think we have a Congressman in Tracy, CA? The Tracy Police Department was turned down for federal aid and I don't recall hearing a peep from a congressman?"

"anonymous wrote on Wednesday, Nov 18 at 09:54 PM »

Frosty and Ornley,

Since when getting federal aid for City's police department has become congressman's job?

"

Anonymous,

Then find a congressman who cares. In the past eleven months we've witnessed:

1. Crime increased four fold.

2. Denied for congress/fed funding for TPD.

3. No word from Congressman as to explanation?

4. Jobs in other cities supported by Congressman.

5. No support for jobs in Tracy by Congressman?

Find us a Congressman who cares about Tracy, not just about his Democrat buddies?

Ah, the ol' "Don't write your congressman". He don't care, routine and push the blame on someone else.

Funny thing is it's probably true. You could be right. I also don't think our congressman cares a rip about Tracy.

There are lots of other cities in our congressman's district getting his attention. Jobs and funding.

Tracy only got a phone call and put on hold?

Funny thing is the article says the government is handing out money like candy.

Then some blogger (anonymous) says "since when has it become congress's job"

Laughing out loud! If he don't want the job, why not just come out and say so. Don't send an anonymous blogger to tell us what we already know.

LOL

Frosty and Ornley,

Since when getting federal aid for City's police department has become congressman's job?

Do you know how many Cities in America need more money in this bad economy?

And, aren’t you, the same so called conservatives, who have been complaining about Obama’s budget adding to the deficit?

So, it’s okay to add deficit when it suits you, but it’s not okay when government decides to spend on education and healthcare?

City of Tracy’s budget woo is of City council’s making, which is, by the way, controlled by your conservative buddies.

If you're looking for someone to blame for City’s inability to maintain its law and order, blame your city leaders, who have miss prioritized their spending for quite a few years now.

And, stop blaming Congressman for all your

personal/local problems.

Obama didn’t create this problem, the deficit grew from less than $6trillion to over $10trillion under the Bush administration. But Obama has succeeded in increasing unemployment and almost literally throwing the stimulus money away and meanwhile increasing the debt to over $12 trillion in less than a year, with projections to over $14 trillion in the next year or so!

Pretty much destroys the notion of spending our way into prosperity.

Tea parties and town halls are only the start. Obama has let down a wide cross section of his voters from 2008 by failing to correct course on the economy, and the Democrats will pay the price in the 2010 elections, Americans vote with their pocketbooks, and it’s gonna be a grim Christmas for many.
