EDITOR,

I want to start by saying this has been a very difficult decision, but one that I think is best for me and the community. I have decided not to seek re-election in November.

There are several factors that have influenced my decision.

As most of you know, my family is very important to me. I am the proud father of four wonderful children. Currently, my sons are serving their country in the United States Army. Cody is stationed in Afghanistan, and Kyle will be leaving for South Korea in June. Their deployments have caused some additional stress on my wife and me.

Another important factor in my decision is my involvement in several nonprofit organizations. I enjoy working as a council member, but my passion is helping others. I have always told people if I had to choose between working with D.A.R.E., Brighter Christmas and other nonprofits or being a council member, I would always choose the nonprofits.

Having weighed these factors, I have decided it is time to focus on my family and helping others.

I appreciate all of the support I have received from the employees of the city of Tracy. It has been a privilege working with such a fine group of people. I also want to thank the council members who appointed me to the council in 2006. Thank you to the citizens of Tracy who elected me to council in 2008.

I hope the current council continues their support of D.A.R.E., Brighter Christmas and the other worthy organizations in our community. I wish you all the best in the coming years.

Tracymom7, I am a mom of a seven year old. I would like to ask you if you are being totally honest? Hiding behind a newspaper name doesn't take away the truth about our kids. I am anything but sure that Jenna did not use drugs despite DARE. Those who participate in DARE don't necessarily become immune to the influence. I know of a Jenna who attended DARE, began using, stripping, selling her body for money and her mom all but turned her back on her. I am not saying your Jenna has, but it seems parents delude themselves that their kids are everything they want them to be, even when in they know different.Your daughter should speak for herself and be able to say that DARE actually prevented her from using when the opportunity presented itself. Otherwise you are just another mom trying to paint her daughter pretty when she may well be using, and doing other things that go along with using, such as finding means to support the habit by indulging in other illegal ways of making a fast buck. Let's not be hypocrites Tracymom7 of Jenna.

My daughter Jenna participated in one of your DARE programs and you really helped to influence who she will be. Thank you for all you do in this community! You are what I wish ever politician were like. The world needs more men like you!

Thank You

"The very least you can do in your life is to figure out what you hope for.

The most you can do is live inside that hope, running down its hallways, touching the walls on both sides."

Barbara Kingsolver, Animal Dreams

You did a fabulous job running through your halls while keeping your integrity intact! This city is a better place to raise our children because of you!

I'm proud to call you my friend!
