EDITOR,
Political strategists will tell you that the key to winning is the ability to “control the message.” This seems to be the strategy adopted by Rep. Jerry McNerney, D-Pleasanton.
Politics today is not for the timid. People recently have gathered to let their representatives hear how they feel. Many times, these are angry displays, as voters feel as if their representatives are not acting in their best interests.
A recent video of Rep. Eric Massa, D-N.Y., is fuel for this fire. In this video, he publicly describes his constituents as “right-wingers” and that he will vote against the will of his district on the health care bill.
That is true arrogance. Indeed, the entire legislative branch seems to act above the people, telling them what is good for them despite what they feel. Reps. McNerney and Rep. Dennis Cardoza, D-Merced, have held zero public town hall meetings to discuss health care. McNerney has had “telephone town halls” — frustrated voters have given their opinions about these staged events.
Do McNerney, Cardoza and others who have opted for this “strategy” feel this is working?
I challenge McNerney to hold a real town hall with real voters, real concerns and real questions. Is he up to the challenge? Isn’t this part of his job? Or does he feel that we voters really don’t understand the wonderful benefits that his party’s leaders have proposed?
Insurance companies, Hospitals, Pharmacetucals all have BIG a stake at the financial table.
The American people SHOULD have been invited to Jerry's financial banquet earlier on.
Phoney? Why or why not, Jerry?
Personally, I didn't care for the "PHONEY" meeting, Jerry.
I think that only benefited the FEW?
Oh, I see it also got an article in the TP.
Thanks to DH for this letter!!!
But, Jerry, I wonder why these nice, concerned people can't get a meeting, per the above letter?
Scratchin' my head.
We can't even take the midday train to the doctors office in Pleasanton now because their ain't enough jobs to support transportation cost which is subsidized by gov."
So much fer tryin ta be green.
Cash4Klunkers? Thought it was ta stimulate th American Automobile Industry but as fer as I can tell Toyota, Honda and Ford, in that order, were the only one's ta benefit. An when ya consider th most modern automobile assembly plant resides in Mexico today I don't think much of that money will make it back inta th hands of th folk that foot th bill, namely th American Taxpayer.
Then ya got th Senator from NY that says he's gonna vote th way he wants regardless of th way his constituants that elected him want him ta vote. Ain't that a kick in th pants?
Yet ya don't hear much about it an I'm willin ta bet this bozo gets re-elected when th time comes.
We can't even take the midday train to the doctors office in Pleasanton now because their ain't enough jobs to support transportation cost which is subsidized by gov.
But we can afford to pay foriegn car companies for their cars and give our own unymployed welfare healthcare.
I love this country.
BTW, I have it on personal knowledge ole Jerry is in favor of Nuclear energy an is against openin up our oil reserves even though it would wean us from th estimated 500 Billion dollars a year we give ta those people who then take the money an use it against th US.
An before ya attack th number, that information an number came from th lips of Congressman Jerry McNerney.
Ya might also ask his position on all these here wind machines that kill th eagles an make so much noise they bother th cows walkin around up thair in the dead of night.
Why didn't Jerry McNerney ask her to stop saying that? How did she SELECT callers? I don't trust a conference call like that. Should be OPEN meeting too.
And I think this letter is right on. Kudos to the letter writer!
