I am prompted to write this letter because of an incident that happened to my husband and I on Friday.

We were driving west on Lowell Avenue, not far from the site of the tragic auto accident Jan. 27 that claimed a young man’s life, when a little red car ran a stop sign and drove directly into the path of our car. On the back of this car, a sign read, “Honk for Mike Ucci.”

In memory of this young man who died in that accident, I think safe driving would be more appropriate than a sign on a car. If teens in Tracy learned anything from this accident, they should know that speed kills.

In honor of Mike Ucci and to keep his memory alive, I encourage all teens in Tracy to slow down and drive responsibly. I never knew him, but to honor him and his family by slowing down and driving safely would be a wonderful gesture.

I admire the group of teens that is collecting money for the families of the accident victims, but how about carrying that gesture farther and, in Mike Ucci’s memory, driving slowly so everyone can live a long, happy life
