Tickets to see Willie Nelson & Family Live in Concert at the Grand Theatre Center for the Arts went on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20.

The shows, at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 11 and 12, officially kick off the 2013 concert season at the theater, located at 715 Central Ave.

According to Jeffrey Haskett, theater supervisor, as of 1:15 p.m., Monday, 268 tickets had been sold for the show on the 11th, while 280 tickets were purchased for the 12th. The theater will be configured to seat 587 people for each show, he said.

Many of the remaining seats are farther back from the stage or in the balcony area of the theater, Haskett added.

During the concert season, which runs through May, the theater will host a Broadway series, a haunted house and a new vaudeville festival with variety shows for families, a July press release states.

The theater wants to place special emphasis on its attendees by offering special ticket subscriptions.

Theatergoers who buy tickets to four main stage shows, and become season subscribers at no extra cost, will receive a 15 percent discount on those shows and any others they attend. Several other perks are also included.

The program, according to the release, is dubbed “As Grand As Me.”

“Whether it’s seeing a show, taking an art class or music lesson, visiting the art galleries or participating on the stage, the Patrons are what make the Grand special,” the release states.

Classic movie favorites, part of the theater’s Cinematic Treasures series, will begin being shown Sept. 21 and run through April. Movies such as “Grease,” “Jurassic Park,” “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” and “The Breakfast Club” will be featured, with most costing $4 for admission. A complete list is on the Events Calendar on the theater’s website.

Several movies in the series have been moved to Friday nights in an effort to support local businesses in the downtown area.

Willie Nelson was in good condition on Monday morning after he suffered a bout of altitude sickness and was forced to cancel a charity concert in Colorado over the weekend, his publicist, Elaine Schock, said.

“He’s fine,” Ms. Schock said on Monday. “He’s on the road to the next gig, and he’s not in any danger.”

The country music star, who is 79, failed to show up at a private home in Castle Pines Village, Colo., on Saturday night. The disappointed crowd was told the singer had been taken to a hospital because he was “suffering from breathing problems due to the high altitude and emphysema,” the NBC affiliate in Denver reported. The show was a benefit for Dumb Friends League, an animal shelter in the Denver area.

Ms. Schock said Mr. Nelson was headed to Texas, where he was scheduled to appear in Dallas on Tuesday.

I don’t know if this will have any effect on his upcoming performance here, but this is from AP….

DENVER (AP) -- Organizers of a Colorado fundraiser say country music legend Willie Nelson cancelled a weekend appearance.

The 79-year-old Nelson was scheduled to perform Saturday at a private home in Castle Pines Village, Colo. The benefit was for an organization that provides animal care and shelter in the Denver area.

The host of the fundraiser, Fred Bartlit, tells The Denver Post that he was informed that Nelson was taken to the hospital after having trouble breathing.

Representatives for Nelson couldn't immediately be reached for comment Sunday night.

Personally not a fan of WN but can appreciate his contribution to music. He's getting up there in years so this is a great opportunity to see him up close in a small venue. Have the Duets CD from VH1 he did with Johnny Cash. Saw Johnny Cash & Family at Wente's many years ago and never regretted it.

Much bigger star power than last years flash in the pan Kelly Pickles.

Seems they spent their budget $$ on Willie cuz the rest of the season is all third rate imitation acts.

Willie Nelson is awesome. I just wish my Auntie Rita was here to see him. She loved him so much.
