Mr. Reed was born June 21, 1924, in Richmond and lived in the Bay Area most of his life. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945.
He moved to Tracy in 1993.
Survivors include his second wife, Jean Reed of Tracy, to whom he was married 19 years; a daughter, Diane Manning, and her husband, Roy, of Brentwood; two sons, John Reed of Sunol and James Reed of San Leandro; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two stepchildren, James Thompson, and his wife, Judith, of Las Vegas and Janis Rainey of Tracy; four stepgrandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Frank and Eunice Reed; two brothers, Frank Reed and Robert Reed; and a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Reed.
Burial was Tuesday, Oct. 2, in Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park in Hayward.
