The tournament will be May 14 and 15 at Vintage High School in Napa.
Tracy High also had a doubles team going after a spot in the section tournament, but a rain delay Friday left the outcome of that tournament in limbo.
Delgadillo and Lewis beat a St. Mary’s team in the semifinals to make it to the championship match. St. Mary’s Michael Bottke and Hans Frey won the championship 6-4, 6-3.
Delgadillo also made it to the semifinal round in the TCAL singles tournament Thursday after he won his first two matches in 10-game sets, 10-4 against Tim Cronin of Tokay and 10-9 (3) against Michael Bottke of St. Mary’s.
He finally faced Josh Mireles of St. Mary’s, who came in second last year after West’s Brett Spadoni beat him in the championship match. Mireles won this year’s semifinal match 6-0, 6-0 and went on to beat teammate Michael Solari 6-0, 6-2 in the championship.
West coach Danette McDaniel said that Delgadillo and his brother, Martin, joined the team late this year and started off at the bottom of the team’s ranking ladder. From there, they proceeded to move up consistently.
“I really am so impressed with these young men, especially (Daniel). He made it further in the tournament than the others,” she said.
Delgadillo added that his growing store of experience helped him Thursday.
“I’ve been learning a lot of new things. That’s what helped me win the first two rounds,” he said, adding that the TCAL tournament offered tough competition.
Delgadillo wasn’t the only member of the Wolf Pack to fall to Mireles’ racket. Mireles beat West’s Noel Antonio 10-0 in the quarterfinal after Antonio took a bye in the first round and beat McNair’s My Yann
10-8 in the second round.
West’s Parker Lewis also took a bye the first round but lost 10-3 to Tokay’s Lawrence Valdez in the second round.
West’s other doubles team, Martin Delgadillo and Beau Lawrence, lost 10-3 to St. Mary’s Bottke and Frey in the quarterfinal match Friday.
SJAA tournament
In singles play Thursday at In-Shape Marina Sports Club In Stockton, Tracy’s Niraj Punjya beat Bear Creek’s Kao Saephan, 10-5, and then lost his second match 10-0 to Ed Herbert.
Tracy’s Jon Trinidad had a bye in the first round and beat Lincoln’s Drew Butler 10-6. He then faced Lodi’s Jon Sharp and lost 6-4, 6-2. Tracy coach Patrick O’Brien said it was Trinidad’s final match as a senior, and one of his toughest of the season.
The doubles matches Friday were plagued by rain and halted twice. Tracy’s Chris Pope and Mitchell Adams beat Chavez High’s Eric Ho and Austin Puenddy, 10-2, in the first round and lost 10-6 to Lodi’s Harrison Prewett and Juan Valencia in the second round.
Tracy’s Punjya and Ryan Kelly had a bye in the first round and beat Bear Creek’s Blong Thao and Mark Zhu 10-2 in the second round. They were playing the Lodi team of Matt Machado and Jarod Weeks in the semifinals when the match was delayed because of rain with a score of 1-1 in the first set.
Tracy 4, Bear Creek 1
Tracy took a win at home in the last league match of the season on Tuesday to finish the season at 6-4 and in third place in the San Joaquin Athletic Association behind Lodi and Lincoln.
In the singles, Tracy’s Trinidad beat Kao Saephan 7-5, 6-1; and Tracy’s Kelly beat Ryan Eldred 6-2, 6-5. Punjya had to play hard for his win, in which he came back to defeat Johnson Thao 4-6, 7-5 (7-3) and 7-5.
In the doubles, Tracy’s Adams and Vatsal Jhalani beat Jack Yang and Nathan Michael, 6-0, 6-3; and Bear Creek’s Thao and Zhu beat Tracy’s Josh Silveira and Laqshya Teneja, 6-4, 6-0.
