The Kimball High girls water polo team moves to the second round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II playoffs after an 11-2 win over McClatchy High of Sacramento on Thursday, Nov. 7, at Woodcreek High School in Roseville.

Juniors Kaitlyn Traut and Courtney Moberg led the Kimball offense with three goals each. Junior Tahnee Trew scored two and seniors Colby Chase and Morgan Fauchier and sophomore Michaela Smith each scored one.

Kimball coach Matt Gumpert said that even with the win he expects the Jaguar team (19-9) has yet to bring its best game to the pool.

“We didn’t close out on a lot of our opportunities,” Gumpert said. “I told them that they have to play a lot smarter if we’re going to get past the second round.”

Gumpert said the Kimball team scored just once in the first quarter and had a 7-1 lead at the half. Nobody scored in the third quarter, the Jaguars scored four goals in the fourth.

“We had so many opportunities that we did score eventually and we scored in bunches,” Gumpert said.

Kimball now faces Dixon High, champion of the Solano County Athletic Conference, in the quarterfinals on Monday, Nov. 11, at Whitney High School in Rocklin.
