The win put the Wolf Pack’s record at 8-2, 1-0 in the TCAL, not counting the weekend’s Wolf Pack Tournament, where West went 4-1 for the day and took second place, losing only to Gregori of Modesto in the final.
West now goes on the road to face its two toughest TCAL opponents, including Tokay in Lodi on Thursday, Sept. 27, and St. Mary’s in Stockton on Tuesday, Oct. 2.
“The Wolf Pack Tournament got us ready,” said senior libero Analysa Eclevia. “All the preseason games prepared us for this. Tonight we hustled. We worked on what we need to do for Tokay.”
The senior blocker said she thought a successful pre-league season prepared her team, but the players know they have to keep getting better.
“Tonight went well, but we need a little more passing and hitting,” she said. “We need the extra energy to get through each game.”
West won Tuesday’s match with scores of 25-11, 25-5, 25-19. Megan Toon led from the service line to put West ahead early in the first set and had another string of service points at the end. Kate Bell had a string of 10 service points in the second set.
McNair kept the third set close at first, even taking the lead a couple of times early on, before Eclevia scored on a series of service points, including two aces, to put West ahead.
Bondo had 12 kills for the night, and Kalani Vaughns had 24 assists. Eclevia had five aces and 15 digs, Toon had four aces, Merinesa Saaga had four kills and Bea Payumo had seven digs.
Tracy 3, Franklin 0
Tracy (7-1) opened the San Joaquin Athletic Association season with a win in Stockton on Wednesday, Sept. 26, against Franklin. Tracy won with scores of 25-15, 27-25, 25-15.
Leading the Bulldogs’ scoring effort was junior Julia Jurado with 11 kills. Sophomore setter Mika Fithian had 25 assists and four aces. Erica Uwaka had eight kills, Kimberly Paschal had six kills, Samantha Gonzalez had five kills and libero Casey Eddy had 13 digs.
Stockton Christian 3, Delta Charter 0
The Dragons (1-7 Mountain Valley League) hosted Stockton Christian at Walnut Grove Elementary School in Patterson on Tuesday. Stockton Christian won it with set scores of 25-19, 25-15, 25-16.
Oakdale 3, Kimball 0
The Jaguars volleyball team (4-4 overall, 2-2 Valley Oak League) traveled to Oakdale on Monday, Sept. 24, and lost to the Mustangs.
Oakdale (10-4-1, 5-0 VOL) won it with scores of 25-10, 25-22, 25-15.
Junior Courtney Lewis had five kills for the Jaguars, sophomore Maddy McLauchlin had 14 assists and junior Vanessa Cerda had nine digs.
West 3, Chavez 0
West High’s volleyball team closed out its pre-league season Sept. 20 at home with a win in straight sets, 25-18, 25-16, 25-10.
Bondo led the Wolf Pack team with four aces, seven kills and seven blocks. Vaughns scored four aces and four kills, and had 12 assists, Bell had four kills and three aces, Eclevia had four aces and eight digs and Jalissa Sims had three kills.
Tracy 3, Stagg 2
Tracy had to make a comeback Sept. 20 at Stagg High after the Delta Queens took a 2-1 lead in the Bulldogs’ last match of pre-league play.
The Bulldogs ended up winning 25-9, 22-25, 24-26, 25-20, 15-9.
Senior Angela Mariani led her team with 13 kills and eight digs, and Fithian had 42 assists. Grace Murphy, Jurado and Paschal had 10 kills each, and Eddy had 20 digs.
Mountain Oaks 3, Delta Charter 1
The Delta Charter Dragons traveled to San Andreas for a match against the Mountain Oaks Eagles on Sept. 18. The Dragons took the first set and played a close third, but the Eagles won 20-25, 25-16, 25-23, 25-15.
Sophomore Emma Richardson scored four kills and three aces, sophomore Vanessa Sanchez had three kills and three aces and freshman Katlin Good had three aces.
