“The family believed he was suicidal,” said Alameda County Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. J.D. Nelson.
At 8:18 a.m. Wednesday, the Tracy police got a call from Singh’s niece or nephew, saying the man had talked about crashing his maroon Toyota Corolla into the Sikh Temple on Grant Line Road.
But by about 3 p.m., Alameda County Sheriff’s deputies were at the canal, where divers from San Joaquin County searched the water for the car and body.
The man’s relatives watched from the bank of the canal, and a small crowd of curious onlookers stood by as well.
“We found the car with the body inside,” Nelson said.
Singh’s relatives told the Press today that he threatened to crash into the canal, not the temple.
