Two Classic gymnasts place second at regional competition

Two athletes from Classic Gymnastics of Tracy finished in the top two in their respective groups at the USA Gymnastics Region 1 Level 8 to 10 Championships, held April 11 to 13 at American Gymnastics Academy in Anaheim.

Erika Pulliam, 14, who was competing as a member of the Northern California state team, placed second out of 15 gymnasts in her session of the Level 8 senior division, finishing the competition with an all-around score of 37.775.

Katelyn Garay, 14, placed second in her 18-gymnast session of the Level 8 senior C-2 division. Her all-around score of 37.150 included a second-place mark on the vault (9.575).

Also competing at the regional meet was Jada Haynes, 14, who finished with a 16th-place all-around score (34.525) out of 20 gymnasts in the Level 8 senior C-3 division.

Classic’s top-level gymnast, Shaylyn Garay , 17, finished in 14th place all-around (36.550) out of 31 gymnasts in the Level 10 senior C division.

Classic has 16 more gymnasts who will compete at the USA Gymnastics Region 1 Xcel and Level 7 championships in Tucson, Ariz., today through Sunday . They qualified at the Nor Cal Gymnastics Xcel Compulsory State Championships, April 5 and 6, in Loomis.

Elianna Murray will compete as a member of the Northern California state silver level team. She qualified for the state team by placing second all-around (37.700) in her silver senior A group and fourth overall in the silver division.

Other silver-level gymnasts from Classic include Arabella Gutierrez, Astri Pulliam, Keelin O’Leary and Isabella Turner, and gold-level gymnasts are Sarah Sailors, Shelby Hurd, Luisa Santiago-Vazquez and Ally Evans.

Both Sarah Dorn and Amber Musskopf made the bronze state team, with Dorn the top all-around competitor in the bronze junior A group (38.275) and top overall competitor at the bronze level, and Musskopf the top all-around gymnast in the bronze senior D group (38.000) and the third-place overall gymnast at the bronze level.

Other bronze-level gymnasts who will compete on the Classic team are Ava Lani Artadi, Ryleigh O’Leary, Allison Brown, Samantha Fernandez and Kayla Coubrough.

Competing as a member of the Level 7 state team is Analee Gillam, who was third in the child B group at the Nor Cal Gymnastics Level 6-10 Championships in Folsom, March 23 and 24. Also competing at Level 7 on the Classic team are Taylor Vu and Romi Tsang.
