The Tracy Unified School District board of trustees will make final changes to the budget for next school year on Tuesday night.

The board cut $12.5 million from the overall 2010-11 budget in March and plans to make final cuts if necessary during Tuesday's public meeting.

New budget projections will include pay cuts for management staff and employees other than teachers, two groups who have agreed to pay cuts to help save jobs in the district.

The three-year budget projection shows the district spending more money than it takes in by 2012-13, which means the board will need to make more cuts down the road to help balance the budget.

District employees have said that the projected deficit needs to be addressed by December 2011.

The board will also discuss appointing a new trustee to replace Tom Hawkins, whose resignation becomes effective July 1.

The Tracy Unified School District board of trustees will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the District Education Center, 1875 W. Lowell Ave.

Point_of_Order: Clueless? Ha! Thats a laugh. That came straight from the mouths of Tracy Unified HR. I guess they are clueless then? Sorry, but my facts are VERY straight, that is, unless HR is making false statements? And when the lady on the School Site Council said "We will just LIE." I must have misheard? Or when I watched the our pricipal pick and choose who stayed and who went first hand I must have missed something?

Yeah, I'm clueless.

Hey - JustAnIdea,

I have an action plan...you and a group of friends can start a Booster Club, its a non profit group that can raise funds for the schools. Then you can donate to any schools that needs the funds. Getting enough people to help with the bingo thing can be the hard part tho...

Keep moving forward :)

Grambo: you're clueless. Principals do not make budget or staffing decisions.

Games: That is why I posted initially- I wanted to clarify the mis-stated information. Classified employees are taking a paycut in the form of furlough days (approx 2%)and ONLY classified positions will be saved by the $370,000 returned to the budget.

Yes, there are middle management employees that are still COMPLETELY untouched by these budget reductions.

The Board can only approve what is presented to them. The "list makers" need to look at middle management and have them contribute their fair share.

Someone tell me what is wrong with this statement? HELLLOOO the classified workers taking it again for Management? Come on everyone takes a cut not just the middle class TUSD!! The teachers and classified have taken enough cuts!

I think that's a great idea also JustAnldea. It'll be a voluntary tax on those who choose to play, and sounds like a win-win situation for many as you described. Why not give it a try ?

25 years ago I worked as a floor supervisor in a casino in Carson City, and we had a bingo game that was very popular with especially many seniors, and with all age groups. It did better than Keno since people felt their odds for winning were much better, which of course it was.

People are crazy for Bingo. I know many people who play and have the whole set up in a tote bag. I think it is a great idea!

I have offered a way to raise enough funds for not only the school district but also all their sports programs ... But for some reason I was just laughed at. Plus the closed minded people that I presented my idea to just said "No Way"

without even weighing out the possiblities. My idea was the following ... With all the openings at the West Valley Mall plus with all these budget cuts (which will get worse in the up and coming years).....

Several times I have tried to present the idea of starting a large Bingo Hall at the mall and several times I have been laughed at. Not only would a well ran game provide the funds needed to stop all these cuts, but it would also provide some extremely needed clean safe entertainment for the community. All The Positives A Well Ran Hall Would Bring To Tracy: 1) Much needed funds for the schools 2) Much needed entertainment for the community 3) Much needed shoppers to the mall from other communities which in turns provides much needed sales tax revenue coming out of the mall 4 ) More shoppers = less open properties at the mall which again brings in more city revenue.. I could go on and on which would be all positive but I wont do to the fact I most likely will just be laughed at again. Thanks from Just An Idea

What a joke. It doesn't matter what this board of "trustees" does when the ultimate decision lies in the hands of the site administrator. (principal) Its a popularity and brown-nose contest at this point. For those of you still working, good for you. You dodged the bullet.

Meanwhile funds are being misappropriated and EL student's funding is being siphoned and used for other things.

Its always nice to here staff say out loud," We'll just lie about spending time with EL students so we will still get funding." NICE!!!

I love seeing the schools spend $5000 on a school play when the childrne sit in broken chairs. My favorite is seeing kids in Cadillacs with giant chrome wheels get dropped off and head to the lunchroom for their district-supplied free lunch program because mommy and daddy cannot afford to feed their kids. Gotta have those wheels though!!!

I cannot wait to see these kid's test scores in a year or two. California schools ae some of the worst in the US. I see us eventually becoming THE worst in the country and Tracy will be at the head of the pack.

What a joke.

I don't know how they decided but I am glad they did and I hope the board approves it tonight. I am the purchasing clerk. If and when they get rid of this position believe me alot of people are not going to be happy. Contrary to popular belief there is still a ton of purchasing going on and one person will not be able to handle the job. Teachers still need supplies and custodians do too. Things just don't magically appear on campuses for students to learn with.

I am very grateful to have my job for one more year and thank my union for the voting in the furlough days and making that great sacrifice.

I'd be interested to know how they decided whose jobs to save? What criteria did they use and why would they keep a Purchasing Clerk if there is no money to purchase things?

Also, I hope they choose a board member who isn't friends with people on the cut list. They need someone who is impartial.

Classified employees voted to take a 5 day furlough which will save the job, or restore hours to 18 fellow employees- pending Board approval.
