Janae Sims of Tracy, an incoming freshman at West High, helped her fastpitch softball team, the Tri-County Smash of Ceres, finish among the top five teams in the U.S.

Sims pitched 42 innings in seven games during the Premier Girls Fastpitch Nationals in Huntington Beach, which began July 29 and ended Saturday, Aug. 4.

She logged three wins for the week, including a one-hit, 3-0 shutout of Carolina Elite in her first game July 30, and two losses.

She pitched 21 innings Friday, Aug. 3, when she faced 89 batters and gave up three earned runs.

In her final two games, she pitched seven innings in each and allowed just five hits and no runs, but she did not get the decisions after the games went into extra innings.

She finished the tournament with a 1.22 earned-run average for the week.
