Tracy Babe Ruth will have at least five all-star teams competing in Central California Cal Ripken tournaments this month.

Those include a 9-and-under team that won two lopsided victories against Lodi on June 23 and 24 in Lodi. With no mercy rule in place for the District 1 qualifying tournament, the Tracy team beat Lodi 30-1 in the first game and 43-3 in the second game.

Marcus Corso pitched a four-inning game with six strikeouts and just one hit in the first game, and Anthony Landa pitched in the second game and struck out four batters and allowed three hits.

Corso also had eight hits for the weekend, including four doubles and a homer. Landa had nine hits, including two doubles; Ryan Villena had nine hits; Chantez Herrer had eight hits; and Landon Bryant had six hits.

The team begins the state tournament in Fresno on Tuesday, July 10.

Also heading to state

Other Babe Ruth teams heading to state-level competition include the 8-year-old all-stars, who had no competition at the district level and are among 12 teams that begin state play today, July 6, in Visalia.

The Babe Ruth 10U All Stars finished second to Ripon in their tournament, which concluded June 25. Both Tracy and Ripon are set to be among 15 teams competing in the state tournament, which begins Saturday, July 7, in Visalia.

Also bound for state competition is the 11-year-old Babe Ruth All-Star team, which won its District 1 tournament June 25 with a 2-1 victory over Lodi. They begin their state tournament on Tuesday, July 10, in Bakersfield.

The 16-18 Tracy team is playing in the Central California Babe Ruth tournament in Hollister. Games started on Thursday, July 5, with Tracy facing Modesto. The 13-15 team wraps up its District 1 qualifying tournament this week, with the outcome to decide if the Tracy team makes the state tournament in Fowler starting on Friday, July 13.

6U All-Stars

This year, Tracy Babe Ruth sent a team of 6-and-under all-stars to Harvey Green Elementary School in Fremont for tournament play. Tracy’s team went 5-0 for the series, including a 14-9 win Wednesday, July 4, over the Fremont All-Stars.

Players include Josh Cortinas, Luke Crivello, Nathan DeLeon, Clay Ellison, Jaydee Herrera, Kaleb Larson, Austin Oneto, Brady Payne, Tony Romano, Isaiah Velazquez and A.J. Verduzco. Coaches are Ruben Cortinas, Sam Crivello, Dave DeLeon, Steve Larson, Jason Payne, and Israel Velazquez.
