West High’s track and field teams won in three out of four divisions on Thursday, April 7, at St. Mary’s High in Stockton. It puts both the boys and girls varsity teams at 2-0 in Tri-City Athletic League dual meets, with two of the toughest contenders in the TCAL, including Tokay, behind West with three more league duals to go.

Will Kaigler placed first in four varsity boys events on Thursday, including the 110-meter high hurdles, 16.22, the 300-meter hurdles, 45.96, the triple jump, 42-09, and the high jump, 5-02. D. J. Watson placed first in two events, including the 100-meter dash, 10.93, and the long jump, 19-04. Among the top girls was Ta’lor Wilburn, who placed first in both the long jump 15-08.5, and the triple jump 33-04.25.

Next up for West athletes is the Arcadia Invitational at Arcadia High School in Los Angeles County this weekend. The meet is a gathering of the state’s top athletes, including many who can expect to compete in the California Interscholastic Federation state championships in May. Athletes had to qualify at previous meets in order to be included.

West athletes attending the meet include Nina Pritchett in the shot put and discus, Ta’lor Wilburn in the triple jump, Elisha Mitchell in the long jump, Will Kaigler and Deon Pinder in the triple jump, and the boys 4x100-meter relay team, including Julian Gray, D.J. Watson, Greg Eaglin, Deon Pinder and Brandon Thompson.
