Mr. Stokes, born April 6, 1924, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1941 after the attacks on Pearl Harbor. He was recalled to service during the wars in Korea and Vietnam.
He was employed by Yandell Truckaway-Sierra Warehouse.
A musician, Mr. Stokes was active in the Tracy Kiwanis Club, Castro Valley 20-30 Club, Murphys Native Sons and Murphys-Angels Camp Lions. He lived in Tracy in the 1970s and 1980s.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Stokes of Fresno; a daughter, Janice Sampson, and her husband, Douglas, of Fresno; two sons, Jeffrey Stokes of Oakdale and Matthew Stokes, and his wife, Rebecca, of Tracy; and six grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Thelma and Isaac Stokes; and a brother, Harry Stokes.
Thursday’s services will begin at 11 a.m. at Tracy Cemetery, 501 E. Schulte Road.
