Summer arrived in Tracy with mild temperatures in the mid-90s as the summer solstice marked the longest day of the year Wednesday, June 20.

According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, the sun is directly overhead, at its most northern point, at "high noon" on the summer solstice, creating more sunlight in the Northern Hemisphere on this day than on any other. Sunset for the longest day of the year is predicted to be at 8:30 p.m., with the end of dusk arriving at 9:02 p.m.

Earlier in the day, Tracy residents took to the parks to try to beat the midday heat at interactive water playground sites on Sixth Street and Lincoln Park.

The afternoon temperature reached 96 degrees, according to AccuWeather, and the forecast for the week shows a cooling trend dipping temperatures to the low 80s and high 70 before heating up again next week.

Summer in Tracy, it's when you notice the best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance.
