Born May 21, 1945, in South Gate, Mr. Cowan lived in Tracy the past 32 years.
He served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Vietnam War, and he was service officer of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Tracy Post 1537 and a lifetime member of American Legion Tracy Post 172.
He worked 28 years as a machine mechanic, retiring in 1989 after 24 years with Holly Sugar Co. and four years with Laura Scudders.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Barbara Cowan of Tracy; a daughter, Melissa Miner, and her husband, Steven, of Modesto; a brother, Joseph Cowan of Calimesa; and four grandchildren.
Graveside services will begin at 11 a.m. Oct. 5 at Tracy Cemetery, 501 E. Schulte Road. A reception will follow at the American Legion Hall, 1960 N. Tracy Blvd.
