Easter softball camp

WHEN: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday, April 9

WHERE: Rainbow Fields, Modesto

DETAILS: Debbie Nelson of All American Sports Academy of Tracy will direct a camp for softball players ages 7 to 14. The camp will offer instruction for recreational and travel ball players, including skills, position play and game situations. Advance registration is required.

Youth bass tournament

WHEN: Noon to 3 p.m., Saturday, April 14

WHERE: New Heart Community Church, 1647 Bessie Ave.

DETAILS: New Heart Community Church’s Helping Hands Ministry and Missions at Home will host its “Line, Lure and Lunch” youth bass tournament for children ages 8 to 15 from low-income families on Saturday, May 19, at River’s End Marina in Byron. The day includes lessons with an experienced angler, four hours of fishing, a barbecue and trophies for all participants. Pre-registration on Saturday, April 14, is required. Space is limited and participants must bring proof of residence and income.

West High School cheer meeting

DETAILS: West High students who want to try out for the 2012-13 cheer squads should attend this session and pick up a tryout packet and get information on upcoming tryouts. Parents must also attend.

Girls basketball league

DETAILS: The Tracy Boys & Girls Club will host the Junior Warriors basketball league for girls 6 through 14 years old. Games will be played on Saturdays from April 21 to June 9. There will be a player clinic Tuesday, April 3, and the club is also in need of coaches for the league.

Pinkie Phillips memorial and benefit

WHEN: 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., Saturday, May 5

WHERE: West High, 1775 W. Lowell Ave

DETAILS: The Tracy Tritons swim team will host a lap swimming event at West High’s Pinkie Phillips Aquatics Center from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, to raise money for the new Pinkie Phillips Memorial Scholarship. The public is also invited to a memorial at 6 p.m., where friends, students, co-workers and former swimmers will honor Pinkie's contributions to the community.

COST: $10 donation for lap swimming includes commemorative swim cap. There is no cost to attend the memorial.

Bowling karaoke contest

WHEN: 7 p.m., every Monday through May

WHERE: West Valley Bowl, 2365 East St.

DETAILS: The Eighth International Bowling Karaoke Contest started on March 5 with the first in a series of weekly sing-offs. Singers compete for a chance to make the local finals, and winners go to the finals in the Eldorado Showroom at the Bowl Expo in Reno in June, with contest organizers picking up the cost of hotel and air fare.

CPOA memorial run

WHEN: 7:30 a.m., Saturday, May 12

WHERE: Shadow Cliffs Regional Regional Park, 2500 Stanley Blvd., Pleasanton

DETAILS: The 4th Annual California Peace Officers Association’s Memorial Run and Family Barbecue honors officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty, and supports the families they’ve left behind through Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.), California Chapter. The run includes 10K and 5K races, plus a 1-mile run for kids 12 and under. The 10K race starts at 8:20 a.m., the 5K at 9 a.m. and the kids run at 10:15 a.m. Entry fees include a barbecue catered by Outback Steakhouse, which will be begin at 11 a.m. along with the awards ceremony.

COST: $40, with a $5 discount for those who register before May 8. Registration for the kids’ fun run is $20. Tickets for the barbecue alone are $12, and $7 for kids 12 and under.

Charity mud run for kids

DETAILS: Recon Run for Kids is a 400-meter obstacle race for kids ages 13. All children must be accompanied by an adult. The day includes refreshments and a tour of Eagal Lakes Resort.

Charity mud run

WHEN: 7:30 a.m., Saturday, June 16

WHERE: Eagal Lakes Resort, 12 W. Lorenzen Rd.

DETAILS: Recon Run is a 5k boot camp style adventure-obstacle-mud run designed for families, athletes, running groups, police, fire, and teachers. Proceeds will support Modesto Junior College track and field and cross country teams, Military Moms of Tracy and The Semper Fi Fund, which supports injured and critically ill members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families. Organizers expect more than 4,000 participants and 2,000 spectators. Multiple waves of runners will take on the course in 15-minute intervals starting at 8:45. Check-in is at 7:30 a.m. There will also be a free 400-meter obstacle course for kids under 13 from 10 a.m. to noon.

COST: $65, $60 per-person for teams, $55 for military with ID and Eagal Lakes members. There is a $10 per-person discount for those who register before April 15.
