Tracy (13-2-2 overall, 6-0-2 SJAA) can secure the title with a win in either of its last two home games against Bear Creek on Wednesday, May 2, or Chavez on Friday, May 4.
Coach Nate Perry added that winning both games would make this Bulldogs team to have an undefeated league title in more than 20 years.
Tracy’s Bria Outland scored the first two goals with assists from Kaitlyn Crone and Cailie Chayrez. Nicole Gasior scored on an assist from Marissa Sanchez while Kellie Piazza scored two goals, both on free kicks.
Kimball 2, East Union 2
East Union’s perfect Valley Oak League season came to an end Wednesday in Manteca as the Jaguars were forced to play with a makeshift lineup.
Coach Ron Hattley had to shuffle the Kimball lineup because of injuries and a recent red card.
Taylor Hopkins scored less than a minute into the match for Kimball after she fired a cross in front of the goal, and Katie Little shot it right back for Hopkins to shoot into the net.
The Jaguars (12-5-2 overall, 4-4-2 VOL) got another chance to score midway through the first half when Mireya Magana crossed the ball from the right into the center of the penalty area for East Union (17-1-3, 11-0-2). Mariah Hinds sprinted up and made a one-touch shot for the goal.
“It was an outstanding example of two attacking players being in sync with one another and reading the same space to create a scoring opportunity,” Hattley said.
East Union scored in the 32nd minute and teams went into the half with the Jaguars ahead 2-1.
The Lancers tied it up with a penalty kick midway through the second half.
Hattley said that the pace intensified for the rest of the second half. Kimball’s best chance to score again came at the end as Magana fired a shot from the left side and Hopkins was there, but not quite close enough to connect for a shot.
Millennium 3, Big Valley Christian 0
The Millennium soccer team faced off against a stubborn Big Valley Christian team on Tuesday, April 24 at the Tracy Learning Center but eventually broke the game open for a 3-0 win.
Falcon coach Mario Ron said the score didn’t reflect the relentless Lions offense that his team (-1-2 overall and 5-1 in the Central California Athletic Alliance) and his goalkeeper Hailey Rockwell faced during the game.
“Hailey saves us so many times in the first half,” Ron said. “They were all over us.”
It was a 0-0 game at the half, and about 20 minutes into the second half the Falcons broke the stalemate when Summer Escobar headed in a corner kick. Ivy Torres scored two more goals for the Falcons.
St. Mary’s 10, West 1
The Rams from St. Mary’s High affirmed their place atop the Tri-City Athletic League Standings with a 10-1 win at West High Tuesday, April 24.
St. Mary’s (23-1, 7-0 TCAL) scored four goals in the first half before West got on the board.
Sahar Latifi scored West’s only goal in a penalty kick in the 38th minute. West’s Lilibeth Torres took a shot on the goal, the ball deflected off the crossbar and Kimberly Becerra came in for the followup shot but was fouled inside the box. The St. Mary’s player got a yellow card and the Wolf Pack scored on a subsequent penalty kick.
The Rams scored once more in the final minute of the first half for a 5-1 lead. Two more goals were also scored early in the second half, followed by three more goals in a three-minute span.
Tracy resident, Grace Cabri, scored two goals for St. Mary’s and also had seven assists, which coach Mark Kusanovich noted was a school record. Regan Porteous and Jamie Flores each scored three, and Carlie Dunning and Stefanie Lucarelli each scored one.
The loss drops West to 1-4-2 in the TCAL.
St. Mary’s also won the freshman-sophomore game, 2-0, which puts the West frosh-soph team at 2-3-2 in the TCAL.
Sierra 2, Kimball 1
Kimball High’s soccer team fell to fifth place in the Valley Oak League standings with home loss on Monday, April 23.
Sierra (9-5-4, 6-3-2 VOL) had a 1-0 lead at the half on an unassisted goal by Naomi Nunis in the 19th minute. Kimball (11-5-2, 4-4-2 in the VOL) tied it up one minute into the second half when Adaurie Dayak passed to Taylor Hopkins, who scored for the Jaguars.
Sierra got a break in the 66th minute when Sydnee Canales took a long, low shot that deflected off of a Kimball defender and then went over the head of goalkeeper Tayler Lennier — who had four saves on the night.
