The green team from Tracy High School took third place in the high school division, while Freiler School’s blue team finished fourth in the middle school division, according to a statement from the county office of education Monday, March 4.
The two Tracy teams will be among the 10 teams representing the county at the NorCal Science Olympiad at Mission Oak High School in Tulare on April 13, along with students from the Lodi, Lincoln and Stockton unified school districts.
More than 600 students in 19 middle school teams and 24 high school teams participated in the one-day event.
Teams competed in 23 different events across the University of the Pacific’s Stockton campus. Among the day’s highlights were a homemade helicopter competition, in which teams tried to achieve the longest flight times, and a homemade vehicle competition, in which teams used gravity to reach their targets.
As one of the top five winners in each of their divisions, competitors for the two Tracy teams were awarded individual medals and plaques.
Also competing this year from the Tracy area were high school teams from West, Millennium and Kimball, as well as middle school teams from Monte Vista, Hawkins School, George Kelly and Jefferson.
