Seven Republicans have expressed interest in running in the June primary election for the 11th Congressional District, represented since 2006 by Rep. Jerry McNerney, D-Pleasanton.
The number shows the drive for Republicans to regain control of a district where the party boasts a 4-point lead in voter registration. In Tracy, contrary to the rest of San Joaquin County and the district, Democrats actually hold a slight edge.
Four of the prospective candidates are from San Joaquin County, home to the majority of voters in the sprawling district, which spans some of San Joaquin, Santa Clara and Contra Costa counties. Manteca high school teacher Jeff Takada, Clements grape-grower Brad Goehring, and, from Lodi, construction company owner Robert Beetles and retired U.S. marshal Tony Amador.
Across the Altamont Pass, businessmen Jon Del Arroz of Danville, David Bernal of San Ramon and former San Jose City Councilman Larry Pegram have also set up Web sites or hired campaign consultants.
McNerney won a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2006 when he beat the odds by ousting seven-term incumbent Richard Pombo, a Tracy Republican.
The California primary is set for June 8 next year.

I couldn't even get one question answered. The operator even told people to hurry up with their questions.
I guess that means there won't be a bus load of people trucked into town this year, again? But what city will they be bussed with all those blue signs?
Personally, I'm tired of it and sure people in other cities are too. Looking forward to "change".
Well Well Well. Here come the judges. Tracy is just one city in the 11th district. Wait in line.
Senior Citizens could use the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) now. Congress has been wasting almost an entire year on healthcare debacle when they need reform, not to take the year over. It's time we get something done.
Enough failures.
Cap and Trade (aka Cap and Tax)
Bailout after bailout (with only inflation 2 show)
Healthcare (a mess without tort reform)
Failure to pull our troops, as was promised.
Speeches for Rio de Janero olympocs.
Failure to work together (example: "you lie")
No proof of "change" for over two quarters now.
Approval ratings fading fast.
People that didn't get paid for Cash 4 Klunkers
Unemployment keeps rising but we're 'movin in the right direction.
And the list goes on...
the social security COLA (cost of living adjustment). In fact, The
Henry J.. Kaiser Family Foundation predicts there may not be any COLA
for the next three years.. However, the per-person monthly Medicare
Insurance premium will be increased from the 2009 premium of $96.40 to
$104.20 in 2010 and to $ 120.20 for the year 2011.
Send this to all the seniors you know to remind them not to vote for the incumbent senators and congressmen in the 2010 and the 2012 Elections.
And don't forget - CONGRESS GAVE THEMSELVES A PAY RAISE THIS YEAR...
Congressman McNerney has not given the attention that Tracy deserves ... his priorities seem to run in lock-step with the Speaker's ... He has done nothing to help with the water issues facing central california and he supports the "Cap n' tax" bill that would be destructive to the ag business.
He is also afraid to face his voters ... the phoney townhall meetings on healthcare were a disgrace.
On the local stage we need to do something about our State Representative ... Where has Cathleen G. been? ... have not heard ANYTHING from her regarding issues that are IMPORTANT to Tracy ... What is she doing ... hello
