Remember When: Dial-a-Ride service began

Last week’s Remember When photo, above, shows the beginning of dial-a-ride bus service in Tracy in November 1976.

Standing next to one of two mini-buses in the photo are Jim Harjo (left), Tracy Trans manager with D.A.V.E. Systems, and Walter Diangson, city staffer who was dial-a-ride project manager.

The two mini-buses were purchased from Far West Coach Inc. of Fountain Valley for $16,000 each. For a time, one of two vans from Good Sam Community Services was also used for the dial-a-ride service.

Today’s Remember When mystery photo, below, shows the presentation of gifts at a community function in September 1979. Who are in the photo, and what was the occasion?
