This week’s Remember When photo shows a railroad engineer waving to a group in Tracy in 1986. Who was the engineer and what was the occasion?

Last week’s Remember When “mystery photo” shows Pee Wee and National League youth baseball coaches during the 1963 or 1964 season. Top row, left to right: Harry Livers, Dave Auchard, Scooter Longmire, Greg Welch, Gary Newton, Maury Costa and Marv Samuels. The coaches, mostly high school students, were employed in the summer by the Tracy District Recreation Commission, headed by Joe Wilson.

Dave Auchard, Greg Welch, Jeri Fisher and Nancy Fiack Kahn identified those in the photo.

That's Joe Robinson (my daddy!) on his last run as an Engineer in the Tracy yard. He's waving to Wayne (his brother) and chief clerk for the So Pac, Vivian Robinson, me, Patricia Robinson and Mark Robinson (his son) who still works for the railroad in Stockton as a Brakeman/Conductor. It was 20 years ago this month that my dad passed away and I miss him every day. He loved the Railroad and the people of Tracy where he was born and raised.

Yep, I could've swore that was Joe, though I was hazy on the nature of the occasion.

Trains were the livlihood of Tracy at one time because of folks like your father. The tracks are pretty quiet nowadays, but those trains will forever be linked to this town.

Thanks for clearing up some of the details and providing all the additional info.

That's Joe Robinson and the occasion was Union Pacific's 150th anniversary.

To my recollection, Lathrop Tracy never made it out here to Tracy.

Rethinking my math, it was probably cloer to UP's 125th anniversary. Or maybe it wasn't an anniversary at all. Maybe that ain't even Joe Robinson. I'm tired.
