The South Side Community Organization is on the lookout for candidates for three queens to reign over the 16th of September Mexican Independence Celebration.

Girls of high school age will compete for the titles of queen of the celebration and Miss Tracy Latina.

Younger girls will vie for two crowns: those in sixth through eighth grades for Miss Junior Tracy Latina and third- to fifth-graders for Little Miss Tracy Latina.

Anne McManus, chairwoman of the queen pageant committee, said the deadline for applications is July 8. She can be reached at 814-6580.

Lynda Mendoza, chairwoman of the fiesta, said commercial businesses also are being sought as sponsors. Those interested can contact her at 603-4054 or Ray Morelos at 607-5415.

In addition to the queen pageant, the fiesta — scheduled for Sept. 14, a Saturday, in McDonald Park — will feature food and craft vendors, musical entertainment, an art show, a car show and a handball tournament.
