Tracy had 369,594 points as of Thursday, Oct. 4, while Davis led the group of 10 cities in first place with 444,907. Chula Vista was third with 263,700. The city with the most points March 31 will be announced as the winner.
According to Kimberly Matlock, an assistant planner for the city of Tracy, the city envisions the raffle as an extra incentive to encourage people to keep logging their energy use for points in the competition.
CoolCalifornia participants in Tracy will automatically be entered to win one of two family prizes. The first gift package covers family admission to the pumpkin patch at Dell’Osso Family Farm, while the second includes gift certificates for dinner at El Castillo and dessert at Vita Dolce and admission to the haunted house at the Grand Theatre Center for the Arts.
“This is a call to action to get people excited about getting involved,” she said. “We’ve been holding steady in second for awhile now, so we really want to see if we can take over Davis.”
Raffles will be held once a month until the competition ends, Matlock said.
Raffle winners will be notified by email the night of the drawing.
There is still time to sign up. Energy use at home can be calculated back to March; however, driving miles must be logged at the time they are accumulated.
“Points for driving are worth triple the energy points, so we don’t want to miss those,” Matlock said. “We need everything we can get.”
