A person at a business on the 1800 block of West 11th Street called police at 4:20 p.m. Wednesday and said that a young man with a long-barreled black handgun was behind the business, and had fired off at least one shot. The caller told police to look for five teenage boys and a teenage girl, who walked away toward Save Mart, and might have gone into a nearby shop.

The teens ran toward the corner of 11th Street and Corral Hollow Road when police drove up. Officers detained five of them at the corner and held another at gunpoint on the west side of the shopping center.

One of the teens told police that the gunman was one of two men in a large white pickup, and the men had asked for some marijuana. The driver reportedly fired two shots and then left. Police let the teens go, and later stopped a truck matching the description of the suspect truck at the corner of Keys and Kinsey ways, but it wasn’t the one involved in the shooting.

Tracy Police logged 157 calls on Wednesday, including the following reports:

9:47 a.m.: A man walked up to a car near the Boys & Girls Club, 753 W. Lowell Ave., and tried to open the car door, according to the woman who was in the car. The man walked away after he found that the car door was locked, and started to look into other cars. Police found the man at Dr. Powers Park across the street and took down his name.

12:48 p.m.: A property owner on the 1300 block of Standridge Court told police that one of his tenants, who is being evicted, might have stolen some property from other tenants. The tenant also called police and said the landlord was trying to kick down her door.

2:19 p.m.: A man contacted police to report that he posted some car parts for sale on Craig’s List and a buyer from Colorado sent him a bogus check. The man was worried that a scammer would now have his home address. Police advised him to cancel the transaction if he could, and to not give out his home address to people he meets over the Internet.

2:45 p.m.: Police arrested Corey Allen Campbell, 32, on suspicion of possession of drugs for sale, and transportation of drugs, at Barnes and Noble, 3150 Naglee Rd. Police took him to San Joaquin County Jail, where he is held on $130,000 bail awaiting a Friday afternoon court hearing in Manteca.

2:59 p.m.: Emergency crews went to Grant Line and Naglee roads in response to a collision between a Chevorlet Suburban and a Chevrolet El Camino. One person had a head injury and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, and the El Camino was towed away.

5:35 p.m.: A woman on the 400 block of Magnolia Lane told police that two men claimed to be with PG&E and said they want to help people lower their utility bills. She said the men didn’t have any identification, didn’t have PG&E uniforms or a PG&E truck, and would not give their names. Police arrived and found a blue Lincoln Aviator with two men matching their description. Police noted that the driver had a suspended license, and called a tow truck to come get the Lincoln.

5:45 p.m.: Police went to Target, 2800 Naglee Rd., for a report of an alleged shoplifter who sprayed a security officer with pepper spray after she was confronted. Erica Lynn Urango Bibble, 30, was booked into San Joaquin County Jail on felony counts of burglary and conspiracy, and was held on $60,000 bail pending a Friday afternoon court hearing.

6:19 p.m.: Police and fire crews went to the 100 block of West Central Avenue for a report of a chimney fire.

OK, well, Just hang in there. I think you can make a difference.

Those that make the decisions on where the money goes have their own designs for it.

That gang task force in San Pablo, 19% decrease in crime. That is not much for San Pablo.

That one guy, 5150 and his idea of a confrontational group, Then you started one. That is where my concerns began.

I read everyone's comments.

I can see the anger and frustration.

Got this gang issue coming at them on one side and a City that isn't helping on the other.

Stuck right in the middle. All kinds of excuses and politics. Got folks stuck in this city due to upside down mortgages and those that are eating up the foreclosures.

Commuters losing their jobs over "The Hill".

It is a transition. AND the city is paving it's way toward the bay area.

We here in The United Sates of America are paying for all of it.

Just like we paid for those planes that crashed into the WTC.

Just like we pay for the drugs that are coming across the border that supports criminal activity.

Al Queda support their cause by heroin. That heroin comes across our border through Mexico.

In many cases, Social assistance programs have fed, clothed and housed the people shooting and stabbing each other on the street.

We paid for that. Continue to pay for it.

And none of the folks running this show have been victimized.

oh cody...you and I think a lot alike! and don't worry...I know that there are a few rotten apples doing all the crap and a bunch of kids who are pretty much stuck in this mess and can't get out.

At this point, based on the comments made by Leon Churchill (allegedly) about the posts by us "bloggers" on the Press...the ones who need to be "gotten" are the ones in power. I'm a former customer service rep...you NEVER tell your base that they don't matter...NEVER!!!!

I'm fighting mad and making plans to call Sacramento and talk to EVERYONE I can about the problems with gangs and crap administration not willing to do the job WE pay them to do.

Sorry...really ticked off...

@newtotracy

kinda figured that. Good. Be safe.

Just remember, Most of the criminals you are dealing with are just mixed up kids. It's hard to understand that when they do something so brutal.

Awareness is enough.

Don't need to go "GET" anyone.

Don't need to be a hero.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to be safe/ feel secure.

cody,

I was there but I didn't see anyone else. I had posted what I'd be wearing and nobody came up to me (I've since removed that post...just in case!). I had no plans of speaking...I went to observe and to start to build our plan so that when someone (me or anyone) does present...they can do so in an informed, planned and professional manner. If we just get up there and get mad, it has less of an effect to my way of thinking. I'm working on using the things that are so positive (like the waterpark) to so many...in a manner that makes people realize that everything that we do in our microcosm aka community affects everything else.

I've anonymized my profiles pretty well I think (hope) and I'm not out for anyone's hide on the wall...I just want the violence to end. Honestly, there is no getting rid of gangs...but you can make them play nicely and do good things. Even the Hells Angels do positive things...the same should be able to be said for the Tracy gangs.

I'm very happy that Councilman Rickman is upset and making a point to not only get this on the agenda but to make it known that he wants solutions. I worry about it being on the agenda because then you get people who speak but aren't taken seriously (I saw this last year)...that's why I want to take the time to make sure that I can present in a profesional and thought-out way.

I'll do my best to be safe...and to help make this town safe for others too! We'd love your help...10 is a good start but 11 would be better. ;-)

Also, according to the minutes from the council meeting, nobody spoke up about the gang issue.

Did anybody make it there from your group?

Anybody from this group gets hurt, they will disband.

Be safe

@newtotracy

Excellent. 10? Very good start for the administrative level.

If they don't know who you are, they won't run from you, or, retaliate/intimidate.

Anonymous is a good thing.

There were those that were very vocal about the group idea, then, they disappeared. Probably got threatened.

The TPD got an "F" on this one.

yes cody it IS frustrating. More frustrating (or danged close) is how people will talk and talk and talk on here (anonymously...including my handle) but we have 10 people in the group I started. Not a bad start, but it's less than the amount grousing on here.

I tend to agree with you on the "no white truck" part...simply because these kids look like getting stopped by heavily armed police, handcuffed and according to them, shot at...is no biggy...happens all the time. Either it is a common occurrence for them (which makes one think that they are less than model citizens!) or they are fabricating the story told to the officers. Either way, the officers did what they had to do...and I hope they scared at least a little bit of one of those kids. If one of them straightens up...it's a partial win!

Running is stupid...if you aren't guilty, you have no reason to run. If someone had asked me for weed then shot at me, I would've waited for the police...in fact I would've called them on the cell phone that you know those kids have! Then I would've recounted the story WITHOUT running and probably needed a blanket to stop my quivering and wanted to sit IN the car to avoid being seen by the white truck that might be cruising to see if we "narc'ed" on them. Running merely makes it look like you think YOU got caught.

underdog...you are right...I think the number of troublemakers is really quite small. A gangbanger is not necessarily a bad person...sometimes they are scared or desperate or just wanting to be more popular. The ones that are an issue are the ones with no regard for life. The ones who seem to think that Halo is more than a video game and we all get a "life up" when we die. Those are the ones we need to stop, catch and remove from our town and really society. (I don't want to dump them on someone else) With them gone, everything else will just kind of dissolve.

I think that the story about the additional neighborhood relations officer is GREAT! The story today about the way the force is adding some resources to the gang unit and at the same time explaining that if the holding system is full...judges are kicking the cases out. Sounds like we need to hold our city administrators accountable...but perhaps go higher than that (something I'd already planned on doing...have an email out to Chris Kelly, the guy who lost the AG nomination to Kamala Harris...and I'll email her too, even though I'm not sure I have confidence having been in SF where she WAS AG!) and hold the judicial system accountable as well.

There's just no reason to make taxpayers endure this. If the jails are full of guys who got popped for 6 oz of pot...let 'em loose so the guy who stabbed someone has a cell! I'm ok with some peaceable stoners on the street if it gets the violent people who are dangerous off! Don't want to legalize pot? Then make it the same crime with a fat fine instead of jail time. Benefits the state a LOT more...same for other non-violent crimes. Why have a shoplifter in jail where WE pay...when we could fine him $5000 instead and reap the benefits. If he can't pay...then there is PLENTY of litter on the highways he can pick up...or maybe scrub graffiti off of buildings. But ANY gang activity should be considered a violent crime...because most of the stuff they get busted for IS. Period.

Oh and the water park...I'll probably never use it...just not a big fan of being half-naked in public (hehe)...but it's gorgeous and I hope it can bring in some revenue from outside "the triangle"...however, if we have rival gangs essentially peeing on the property to make it theirs...ain't nobody gonna come! Who wants to play in the water when you are scared? I think that the fact that this is now real (the water park) is a huge boost to the community effort that we've started. Why waste that money on a playground for gangbangers?

We've got 2 years to clean up...let's get those brooms out!

@concerned

If 5 teens running from a shooting tell me 2 guys in a big white truck were shooting. After the witness reported it all in progress, well, there is no white truck.

They had the shooter. If they separated the 5 teens would the white truck story be the same?

Did the cops even smell their hands for gunpowder and why would anyone in a white truck shoot and leave the gun behind?

Right where the 5 teens were.

Most of the shootings in town recently have been teens. Kids.

I went through there close enough to the time of incident to see the kids walking down 11th. I was close, but not there. Unless you were there, you don't know either. So were you there are not?

If you were there, you need to talk with the cops.

cody, were you there? How do you know there was no white truck?

I think I saw some of these kids leaving school (kimball). If they had a gun, that means that they had it at school too. Because they left school and walked down the street. I would like to think it was not them.

However, just cuz I'd like to think it doesn't mean it wasn't them. Don't run from the cops if you're innocent. It makes you look guilty for Pete's sake.

Actually, this kind of crap can happen anywhere. It's not limited to Tracy even though there seems to be a publicized increase in violent incidents.

It's up to parents to raise their children correctly but when they're away from home it's a whole different story.

I've found, through experience, for the most part kids are basically good. You have your few a$$holes that ruin it for the rest.

One good thing about those who are in the minority ... it's job security for the police.

Too bad though that they put the rest of us at risk.

There never was a big white truck.

It is frustrating and depressing to watch Tracy lose it's true identity.

Nothing other cities haven't experienced.

Using the same tactics.

Tracy keeps spending on "Water Parks", Annex in more area, "Downtown" projects, include more and more.

Trying to attract money, interest in their community. Collect taxes.

Then there is the complaint of no funding to keep it all secure.

No money to properly police it.

newtotracy thank you, I just may do that. There are times I feel positive to try, you have a good attitude. I am sure this gun and knife violance will continue, there really is no reason for these scumbags to stop. There are great street cops busting a** and i'd like to help. I am almost at the point where, nothing from the city hall will be done untill some innocent by stander or someone watching tv while eating dinner will catch a stray bullet. Until then I don't see things going into overdrive to systematically derail these punks and make the criminals scared of our cops. There are simple things that the city leaders can start doing to start making the scumbags think twice, like breathing down there necks all day and all night.

Lucky,

come and join us to help solve the problem (if you haven't already). I'm totally serious about wanting to work to fix this issue and we actually have some very similar ideas. I know time is tough, but with several of us the load is lighter...

I am invested in this town...I bought a home not a house...and I don't want to be run out of town by a bunch of people who (in many cases) my tax dollars support through various programs. I want to take a stand and make Tracy safer...and the TP forum is great to theorize but it doesn't get things done...only WE can get things done...there are 9 members on Tracy Island in Take Back Tracy...and more are always welcome! Don't let them beat you...they aren't worth losing over.

okayokay, sorry for the rude comment. If you would be kicking your kids a@#'s if it were them, then good for you, you are a good parent, these kids parents most likely want glossy photographs to frame of there kids in the line up. The sorry thing is , once again we have a common happening of gun violence here in a crowded area, much more crowded area. I now feel myself sinking into the typical attitude of 'oh well so what' and accept the new state of violence being a daily happening here. When things start getting better, when we have a chief ofpolice who knows what they are doing dealing with gun, knife violence, I will once again start feeling better about taking my family out to eat or to the store. Bottom line here, it is everywhere in this town. Not just over there anymore. Sad.

Let's focus, people. Another shooting took place on our streets, and all that's being said here is whether or not a pic of a minor is legal.

And get off the TP's back. They know what they're doing.

exactly fortheunderdog! if you run, odds are you are doing so for a reason!

if I had been in their position (both the shot at and the police)...I'd have wet my pants and be crying! They all look like someone just asked for the time.

I see your point on the picture, but sadly the kids will look at it as a good thing probably. They are all wearing the "gangsta look" with their hats on crooked and pants down low...all I can think of is them piling into a clown car because they look like clowns! It appears to me that they think that bad is good...and that's bad for our town.
