Police log: Garbage can goes boom inside Taco Bell

A caller reported at 10:26 p.m. Tuesday that something exploded in a small garbage can inside Taco Bell, 915 S. Tracy Blvd.

Smoke filled the restaurant, and the can was taken outside. Police said someone put a “small improvised device” inside it before it blew up.

The Tracy Police Department received 195 calls for service Tuesday. The following is a sample of those calls.

12:35 a.m.: A man said he “ran off” two boys wearing all red who tried to jump a fence at Stein Continuation High School, then saw them on the property of Central Elementary School, 1370 Parker Ave. He thought they might be trying to burglarize the school, but they walked off.

1:15 a.m.: Police arrested a 19-year-old man on suspicion of stealing a stereo out of a Dodge Ram pickup at Palm Court and Sequoia Boulevard.

2:01 a.m.: Police took a kid to the San Joaquin County Juvenile Hall after he got into an argument with someone at the Cole Apartments, 1629 Holly Drive.

4:57 a.m.: A woman at the Chesapeake Bay Apartments, 2941 W. Lowell Ave., reported her 1992 Nissan Sentra was stolen.

6:03 a.m.: A woman on the 1500 block of Marine Court reported her 1993 Honda Accord was stolen.

8:05 a.m.: A woman on 200 block of La Monte Lane reported a GPS device was stolen from her car, and that she’s had trouble with her neighbors who may have taken it.

10:03 a.m.: A caller complained about a peach tree that hangs over a fence at Fieldview Lane and Promenade Circle, littering the ground with fruit. Police said the tree was actually on Greenwood Court. A crew from public works picked up the fruit, and an officer is going to contact the homeowner.

1:04 p.m.: A woman on the 200 block of David Ernest Court reported a blue Cadillac was in their neighborhood that might be tied to vandalism. She told police the Neighborhood Watch block captain told her to call police whenever she sees the car in the area.

2:10 p.m.: A caller reported a car ran out of gas in the intersection at Mabel Josephine and Patrick McCaffrey Lane.

2:29 p.m.: A caller from the Valero gas station at 153 W. 11th St. reported a guy working out of a taco truck called “Pirate Jacks” stole a 12-pack of Coke from a display rack. The caller said the theft was recorded on camera.

2:33 p.m.: A caller reported six or seven kids near a picnic table at Ceciliani Park, 1600 Cypress Drive, might be responsible for graffiti on the table. Police warned the kids.

3:18 p.m.: A caller on the 1600 block of Tahoe Circle reported an ongoing dispute with a neighbor that started between the caller’s son and the neighbor’s daughter. The caller said the neighbor keeps making false barking dog reports, giving “hard stares” to the caller’s family and slows down and stares as he drives past.

3:44 p.m.: A caller on the 3200 block of Cabrillo Drive reported a woman keeps opening the back door of a car on the street and “screaming obscenities.” The caller said her son-in-law said “she’s been on a druggie roll,” but police talked to her sand said she appeared to be on no drugs, “just yelling at her dog to get in the house.”

3:50 p.m.: A caller reported graffiti at Michael’s, 2940 W. Grant Line Road.

3:51 p.m.: A caller reported graffiti at Staples, 2690 W. Grant Line Road.

3:54 p.m.: The theft of a cell phone was reported on the 2600 block of Baigorry Court.

4:01 p.m.: Graffiti was reported at Monument Car Parts, 208 E. 11th St.

4:11 a.m.: Graffiti was reported on the 1100 block of Douglas Drive.

4:19 p.m.: Police arrested a man drinking with four other guys at Lincoln Park, 170 E. Eaton Ave., on suspicion of public drunkenness.

4:38 p.m.: A caller reported a large group of transients loitering at Dr. Powers Park, 900 W. Lowell Ave. Police said a soup kitchen was set up there and was scheduled to be taken away at 5 p.m.

5:56 p.m.: A caller reported people moved out of a home on the 1300 block of Lincoln Boulevard and left behind two dogs in the garage. Police said people come back to feed the dogs, but they’ll be taken away if not moved.

5:59 p.m.: A woman at the Motel 6, 3810 N. Tracy Blvd., reported her estranged husband is stalking her. She said he shows up with a video camera and asks her if she’s high or under the influence.

7:10 p.m.: A caller from 7-Eleven, 455 W. Grant Line Road, reported a skinny kid and another teenager swiped some Bubweiser beer and took off.

8:08 p.m.: A man on the 2300 block of Lincoln Boulevard reported receiving threats from someone he and his wife sold a car to that can’t pass a smog test.

8:29 p.m.: A caller reported a U-haul van followed by a car were driving around Tracy Boulevard near Whispering Wind Drive. The caller was concerned “they may be looking for a house to clean out.”

8:37 p.m.: A caller reported the theft of a bright green Razor-brand $300 electric scooter from the 2600 block of Abby Ford Court.

8:59 p.m.: A caller reported watching four guys get out of a car at Ceciliani Park, 1600 Cypress Drive, and three walked into the bathroom. He thought they might be dealing drugs, but the men were gone when police arrived 17 minutes later.

9:04 p.m.: A caller reported seeing gunshots coming from a garage on Sultana Drive. A second caller said they heard shots at Galli Park, but police checked around and couldn’t figure out where the shots came from.

9:41 p.m.: A caller reported two mobile homes parking on the street and “creating a visual hazard” and nearly causing a car crash at Glenbriar Circle and Quail Run Drive. Police issued a warning.
