Police responded at 10:36 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, to the 2800 block of Hawkins Court where a man reported his stepmother was messing with his medical marijuana grow setup.

A 21-year-old man was arrested at the scene for allegedly becoming disorderly. He was detained by citizen’s arrest until police arrived. The log notes that a family member began to punch holes in the walls of the home, but its unclear of he, or the caller, was arrested.

Tracy police received 157 calls for service Tuesday, June 19. The following is a sample of those calls:

12:33 a.m.: Two men were reportedly seen looking into vehicles and testing for unlocked doors in the area of Alden Glen and Cypress drives. Police were unable to locate the men.

2:47 a.m.: Medical attention was given to a man allegedly passed out at the Tracy Ball Park, 2001 Bessie Ave. The man was reportedly seen laying on the ground and not breathing. Lifecom provided medical assistance to the man, and police located his family.

9:02 a.m.: A man stopped a woman for directions to Taco Bell and then allegedly exposed his penis to her. He asked the victim “if she would like this,” the police log states, and then flashed her. The victim described the man to police as white and in his mid 20s with a clean face and brown, curly hair. He was reportedly driving a small gray Toyota pickup truck. The incident occurred in the area of Sycamore Parkway and Amberwood Way.

10:18 a.m.: A fire hydrant was apparently stolen from the 2800 block of West Grant Line Road.

11:01 a.m.: A resident on the 1800 block of Chester Drive reportedly left home for two hours, and found it burglarized upon returning.

2:17 p.m.: Ten teenagers were allegedly smoking marijuana in Ray McCray Park, 2125 Fieldview Drive. The group was gone when police arrived.

2:48 p.m.: More than 20 cows broke through a fence and were running through a neighborhood on the 2900 block of Jackson Avenue. The owner of the cows was able to herd them back into the field within 30 minutes.

4:26 p.m.: The owner of a 1994 silver BMW reported that the vehicle was stolen from Avalon Apartments, 565 Peerless Way.

5:47 p.m.: Police arrested a 43-year-old woman on the 1400 block of Beverly Place on an outstanding warrant form the Tracy police.

8:58 p.m.: Two female teenagers were cited and released to their parents for allegedly smoking marijuana in a parked vehicle in the area of Gaines Court and Atkins Lane. Police reported smelling the marijuana and allegedly found an undisclosed amount in the girls’ purses after they reportedly consented to a search.

LOL this has to be the funniest set of paragraphs on the police log in a long time...ok where do i start?!?

Ok lets start with the guy pulling out his penis at taco bell...yes it is disgusting and classless on many different fronts. But it is just too funny that she gave a description of him and his brown curly hair. I am confused if the brown curly hair was on his head or on his penis? haha

Also...I love it how a caller counted how many marijuana smokers there were in a circle. Was it just one joint for all those heads or did they have a few going around in a circle? cuz one joint for ten heads isn't going to get it done kids!

And the fact that there was a timer on the dairy man who got his 20 cows off the street with in 30 minutes has got to be a new Tracy record for rounding up more than 15 cows on a city street.

Marijuana is like Gold, highly valuable. Those who need it know how to get it; contact a buddy, or grow it your self. Outside of that, it may be profiteering, which the Government is against, according to Pot Club raids and the news that follows. When these police incidents involving growing marijuana occur in our awesome town of Tracy, it might be from those who mis-interpret the law to their favor. On one side, NIMBY, not in my neighborhood. The other side,

"It works for me". Marijuana should be a non-legal issue. Only a medical issue, due to it's non-lethal stance in society.

And yet we condone smoking as legal.

I just love the way articles get printed with spelling and/or grammer errors. Don't writers or editors proofread their articles before going to press? You would think that in this day of computers with spell check, etc. this would not be an issue. So tired of reading articles either online or in print that make so many mistakes. Shame.

I'm in favor of legalization, but I have to agree with rock-on...as long as the product is illegal, the problems that come from illegal cultivation are tripled or more than just possession.

Smartest thing we could do is to legalize it...let the potheads in jail out with community service hours...and earn some taxes on it.

In the meantime...we need to keep the growhouses out of town...even when it's legal, large scale ag business just doesn't belong in town...pot, tomatos, peaches...whatever...that's agriculture and you need space. You just shouldn't be farming for profit in your basement.

And yes, the way the state lines out the medical pot thing...it can be large scale. My understanding is 99 plants in flower at any time. That is a LARGE scale operation! (and ps...you don't need 99 plants for a personal medical issue!)

Read rock-on's message again. He/she said "thank goodness the city is finally putting an end to LEGAL cultivation". If it is LEGAL then why shouldn't someone be able to grow it. It's not 99 by any means.

SB 420 established guidelines for appropriate personal use. State law carves out "protection" for patients and caregivers who cultivate as many as six mature or twelve immature plants and possess as much as eight ounces of dried marijuana. While localities can establish higher personal use amounts, they may not go lower than the guidelines in SB 420.

Nope, don't use it, never have. But it should be my right. I have been through cancer twice. If I was offered it back then I probably would have used it as much pain as I was in and the nausea that wouldn't stop.

Nicki...I too haven't ever used it, but been around it a lot. I think it should just be legal. Interesting numbers that you've been provided...I'd been given the 99 in flower number (albeit by someone who HAS that amount!)...the number you give IS adequate for medical use and would NOT be an issue in a neighborhood.

Personally, for one's own personal use...no biggy...nobody is going to break in and steal 6-12 plants...not worth it. But when a person has a large quantity...well it becomes a crime. I'm going to look into SB 420 a bit more (love the irony of the number...or was it irony?)...because I actually could benefit from those numbers (well my neighborhood could).

Like I say...legalization is the way to make this all a non-issue and let the PD go get the real bad guys instead of the stoners. I did misread rock-on's post...busy day! :-)

glad to hear you made it through those 2 bouts with cancer...hope you are free and clear for many years to come!

Thank goodness the City is finally putting an end to legal cultivation!

Really Rock on? Because I'm sure the Tracy police have bigger fish to fry than the people who are growing medical marijuana for their own private use. Sounds like you buy into the federal propaganda that has been shoved down American's throats for decades. Medical Marijuana isn't going to be illegal for long, you can bet on it.

Sumer66 – you’re exactly correct. The Tracy PD does indeed have bigger fish to fry… like all the labor intensive investigation work that has to be done when the grower is shot because local thugs were trying to steal his medical marijuana plants. Or having to show up at a house that is burning to the ground because the indoor heat lamps caught on fire. My point has nothing to do with the use, or need of medical marijuana…. my point IS the ongoing public nuisance that surrounds the growing activity. The violence associated with residential farming is hugely evident & undeniable. Try living near a grow location and see how the quality of your life drops. People need to use medicinal pot? Go buy it at a dispensary. I can’t grow Vicoden in my back yard… but if I could, there would be people trying to steal it from me.

Need more evidence...?

Look up the article in the Tracy Press called "Medical marijuana grower robbed at gunpoint"

Rock On, you need to get your argument straight.

You said "Thank Goodness the City is finally putting an end to legal cultivation"

All cultivation in California is ILLEGAL by Federal standards. LEGAL Cultivation under California Laws is covered in SB 420 and allows for up to 12 plants for personal medical use.

LEGAL operations (for personal use, no more than 12 plants) Do not require tapping into electricity illegally, and I have yet to hear of someone invading a home to steal 12 plants.

The references you provided were major growing operations that were ILLEGAL as they are over the limit for personal use.

Federal marijuana laws are eventually going to be turned over. State by state, the people are approving it for medical use and de criminalizing it's possession. The state of California will only ticket you for possessing an ounce or less WITHOUT a marijuana card. Thats a $150 ticket. You are ticketed more for no seat belt or texting while driving.

Summer66 – unfortunately, I know more about this subject now than I ever really wanted to. I still stand by my initial statement “an end to legal cultivation”. I understand all your arguments, but they are all “by the book hypothetical” arguments. The way things happen in reality are quite different. So tell me this… when you have four individuals that live at the same home, and each of them has their own license… now you have 48 “legal” plants. You can’t tell me that 48 plants in a residential back yard isn’t a problem, ok? And no, this is not a hypothetical…this what’s happening in my neighborhood, for several years. Unfortunately, way too many dope smokers have completely taken advantage of the medical marijuana privileges. It’s so stupidly easy to obtain a medical marijuana license now. It’s the pot heads who have hijacked the law & ruined it for the real people who are sick & benefit from marijuana.

Now… my personal opinion on the big picture: I really don’t care if someone wants to smoke dope. That’s their brain, their business. At least half of my friends do. I really wish the federal government would legalize, regulate & tax the substance (similar to the way alcohol is regulated). It would solve a huge quantity of issues, from the violence on the border, to overcrowded jails, all at the same time. Federal legalization is the REAL issue everyone needs to be fighting for. Instead, we’re all fighting with each other, because the Fed says no, the state says yes, and then the city says no.

rock-on...you make a very good argument...and I think we might be neighbors. when there is a demand on the street for the crop (whatever that crop may be)...there will be crime involved with said crop.

12 plants = not worth stealing...48...very much worth stealing.

another thing for everyone to remember...pot growers don't make revenue (they tend to not report that stuff!)...so they qualify for the PGE low income assistance...so, not only are our tax dollars funding the police to take care of the issues that arise from the grow operations, but you and I are helping to pay their power bills. there is no way for PGE to do anything about it...the way the rule is written, all they can do is reverify income...which will still be nil thanks to the lack of taxable income from a federally illegal crop.

this stuff costs us in so many ways...legalize it and we all stand to benefit...people use it anyway, and it's relatively harmless (no worse than cigarettes or liquor!)...let's just STOP giving income to the gangs...which is what illegal pot does.

Newtotracy – thank you for your constructive input. We may indeed be neighbors. Unfortunately, there are several known problem spots within Tracy with the same scenario (more than 1 or 2 individuals with marijuana licenses, growing their legal limits).

And again, no one really cares if someone wants to grow a handful of plants in their back yard (undetectable), but I’m sorry…. you can’t be farming the stuff at my expense. Not ok.
