Actually I know the store manager and this is mistaken. It was only one person. Male African-American, late teens to early twenties. Also, he wouldn't have gotten away if the 911 operator had processed the call properly. The manager was staring at the guy as he was getting caught in traffic, and was trying to tell the operator his location and direction of travel. But all she wanted to talk about was what happened in the store. If she had entered the suspects location into the dispatch computer, and THEN asked her less time sensitive questions, the police officer who was ONLY 300 YARDS FROM HIM WOULD'VE KNOWN SOMETHING WAS GOING ON. But according the officer, nothing came across his computer until long after the phone conversation was over. However, to the credit of our Tracy Police Officers, the officers and detectives who responded were terrific!
- Just some advice: Don't follow the suspected drunken driver. Let the police do the work.
Also, if you decide to pull over and rest, do NOT do it on the freeway. Hope the Officer said that too.
Why should the caller not follow the drunken driver?
Why should anyone take your advice?
Do you have a related story to tell that ended badly?
