Police made contact with a possible drunken driver at 7:51 p.m. Monday, Aug. 30, near Grant Line Road and East Paradise Road east of town. Police followed the driver of the pickup, which police said was “all over the road — speeding up and slowing down,” from east of MacArthur Drive to Holly Drive, where the motorist turned north.

The driver almost hit a pedestrian at Kavanagh Avenue, according to police, and turned west on Clover Road, where the driver parked in the CVS parking lot.

The driver tested negative for driving under the influence but was cited for other infractions. The pickup was towed away.

Tracy police received 168 calls for service Monday, Aug. 30. The following is a sample of those calls.

12:53 a.m.: A caller reported hearing gunshots on near Grant Line Road and Joe Pombo Parkway.

2:12 a.m.: A caller reported a fight at Covey’s Sports Grill, 2712 Naglee Road. Police “spoke to the owner regarding issues at his club,” and the owner said he was trying to correct the problems.

7:45 a.m.: A central air conditioning unit was stolen from Prosperity Real Estate, 37 W. Eighth St.

9:21 a.m.: A caller at Sutter Tracy Community Hospital, 1420 N. Tracy Blvd., sought help for a hand that was injured when the guy punched a wall at a party several days before.

9:33 a.m.: A neighbor of a caller on the 400 block of Loma Verde Drive reportedly keeps making threats against the caller and his family. The neighbor apparently has a history of “mental issues,” according to police records.

10:29 a.m.: A Toyota Corrolla and Green Mitsubishi were in an accident at Grant Line and Naglee roads. No one was seriously injured.

11:02 a.m.: A man was stopped by police after allegedly stealing an ink cartridge from Staples, 2960 W. Grant Line Road. The assistant manager declined prosecution, saying that his only reason for calling police was to get the stolen property back. Police did not find the stolen ink cartridge.

1:50 p.m.: A woman reported that someone keyed her car while it was parked at Tracy Superior Court, 475 E. 10th St.

3:02 p.m.: A 77-year-old woman told personnel at a local hospital that she was the victim of a possible sexual assault.

5 p.m.: A caller in northern Tracy reported that she was sexually assaulted in June and in July by a man in Connecticut.

5:21 p.m.: Two juveniles were detained on suspicion of shoplifting at JC Penney, 3100 Naglee Road.

9:28 p.m.: A group of cars and trucks were seen parked next to the water treatment plant at Arbor Road and MacArthur Drive.

11:45 p.m.: A caller near Thoming Park, 1000 Cambridge Park, reported a red Camaro driving slowly through the neighborhood.

• This column includes a sample of items as reported in the Tracy Police Department dispatcher’s daily log. Additional information is based on reports from officers and other law enforcement agencies. To report information anonymously about a crime: Crime Stoppers, 831-6847.

Amidst the confusion, the irony police were notified as well.

"A possible sexual assault? If it sent her to the hospital I'd call it a real assault.

She probably just couldnt remember whether or not she was sexually assaulted.

Since I am the owner of a red camaro that might have been me driving (had it been at a different hour). What was the caller complaining about? He/she would have preferred it if the car were speeding through the neighborhood? It seems like when you drive a red camaro at night you are damned if you speed and damned if you drive slow.

If I understood completely what you just said and you know that someone’s in an empty house right now, then call the police right now and tell them what you just told us as why you’re very concerned and asking them to send someone out to check. Good Luck.

A possible sexual assault? If it sent her to the hospital I'd call it a real assault.

Until the fire department arrived and he was handed another bill.

Did they check his printer? Maybe he'll be kind enough to recycle them upon his next purchase?

A full moon makes a beautiful sight around high tide.

Can't the Tracy Press employ someone to write the police log items in a more professional way? They seem to be thrown together like a poorly written "draft". It is almost insulting to the readers.

Do people actually think they are doing a service to their community by calling the police every time they see someone walking down the street or standing in the park or sitting in a car?

11:45 p.m.: A caller near Thoming Park, 1000 Cambridge Park, reported a red Camaro driving slowly through the neighborhood.

Perhaps the caller would feel more safe and normal if the car had been speeding and shooting at pedestrians. This is the new normal.
