A public memorial service will be Aug. 26 for Pete Hrones, 88, who died July 28 at his home in the San Joaquin River Club.

Born Dec. 16, 1923, in Oakland, Mr. Hrones served in World War II, receiving the Purple Heart, and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1051. He was a carpenter and a musician.

Survivors include two sons, Nick Hrones of Georgia and Pete Hrones of Martinez; a daughter, Stella Hrones of Idaho; three stepchildren, Rita Deatherage of North Carolina, Dan Fields of Arizona and Judy Merrigan of Pleasanton; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

His wife of 44 years, Doris Banick Hrones, preceded him in death.

An open memorial gathering is planned from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 26 at the San Joaquin River Club clubhouse, 30000 Kasson Road, and the family requests no flowers or donations. The family will have a private memorial Aug. 25 at Antioch Yacht Club.
