Ramey, 27, comes to TGCC from Elkhorn Golf Club near Stockton, where he was assistant pro.
He is employed by Sierra Golf Management, which has contracted with the country club to manage golf operations, which include the pro, pro shop, cart rentals and driving range.
Last year, the same firm contracted to take care of course maintenance at TGCC.
Steve Quinn, a member of the TGCC board of directors, said the country club, founded in 1955, will continue to operate the bar, restaurant and membership services. Starting last year, the course has been opened for play by non-members who pay greens fees.
“This new arrangement is an important step in making Tracy Golf and Country Club financially strong,” Quinn said. “With the course now back in shape (after Hetch Hetchy pipeline work was completed), we’re looking forward to a healthy 2013.”
Ramey, who started his first head-pro job Jan. 25, succeeds Sean McCarty.
A native of Ripon and a golfer since the age of 10, Ramey attended Cal State Stanislaus, where he was a member of the Warrior golf team. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business in 2009.
He joined Sierra Golf Management at Elkhorn in 2011. In addition to operating golf operations at TGCC, the firm also manages seven courses from its base in Chowchilla.
This Saturday, Feb. 9, SMG is sponsoring a Welcome to Tracy tournament for more than 100 men and women golfers from TGCC and other clubs operated by the golf-management firm.
