Directors have sought a permanent general manager since ML Gordon's contract was voided in August due to his prolonged medical absence.
Interim General Manager Rich Ramirez, who was hired in December, said in a telephone interview Friday, March 1, that more than 60 applications had applied.
“I am very pleased with the number (of applicants),” Ramirez said. “We are getting close, and I am very optimistic we will have a general manager in the early part of April.”
On Monday, board members met with Phil McKenney of the recruiting firm Peckham & McKenney of Sacramento, which is overseeing the general manager search.
According to the recruitment protocol approved by the board of directors Feb. 13, two panels will interview all of the semifinal candidates March 18.
One panel will consist of the board directors, and the second will be a community-professional panel made up of seven nominees from Ramirez, board members and board attorney Daniel Schroeder.
Candidates will undergo a first round of interviews on March 18, and two of the finalists will be asked back for a second interview March 19, according to the protocol procedure.
Board President Celeste Farron said Wednesday, March 6, that she was unable to disclose who was serving on the community-professional panel or how many candidates would be interviewed, because both were discussed during closed session.
Ramirez said directors were expected to narrow the field to about 10 people for panel interviews.
