The Millennium High soccer team closed the Harvest Christian League season with its second league championship in a row.

The Falcons already were assured of at least a share of first place before their 2-0 win Monday at Wilton Christian in the last game of the regular season.

They finish at 12-4-3 for the season, 7-0-3 in the HCL. Their record guarantees Millennium the top seed from the league going into in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division VII playoffs. That means the Falcons will host the first round of playoffs against the No. 3 team from the Sacramento Metropolitan Athletic League, tentatively the team from Global Youth Charter, at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, at Tracy Learning Center.

Coach Daniel Espinoza said the team’s strong point has been team unity.

“They act like they’ve been brothers for a long time,” he said. “They know where they need to be when they’re playing, and they know what the other players are thinking.”

Millennium won Monday’s game at Wilton on two goals from Steven Pina, both of them on passes from Marcus Matta. The first was 10 minutes into the first half and the second near the start of the second half.

The home-field advantage means a lot to the Falcons, who are undefeated on their home pitch.

“I just hope we bring our A game and achieve our goal of winning it all,” Espinoza said.
