After thousands of people called in to the local congressman’s first health care telephone town hall earlier this month, he has announced a second for next week.

Rep. Jerry McNerney, D-Pleasanton, announced today that he will answer questions about President Obama’s proposed health care reform plan from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

About 5,000 people called during the last telephone town hall, McNerney spokeswoman Sarah Hersh said, but only 12 callers could get through to the congressman in the hour time slot. That high demand led to the need to announce a second phone conference, Hersh said.

“Given the level of participation, it was a very productive session and he heard a lot of good feedback,” she said. “He’s looking forward to another opportunity to meet with his constituents.”

Hersh said the telephone town hall is a medium McNerney prefers to reach a district that spans from Lodi to Morgan Hill. She said this upcoming conference will be the sixth telephone town hall he’s held this year. Other such meetings focused on helping small businesses and energy legislation.

The telephone town halls are an extension of the congressman’s health care listening tour, where he has met with residents, hospitals, patients and small business owners. McNerney has made stops to talk about health care in Tracy in July and earlier this month, when he met with local small business owners, and took tours of a doctor’s office and Sutter Tracy Community Hospital.

No other local stops have been planned yet, said Hersh. McNerney will be in California until Labor Day, then return to Washington D.C.

Callers can register in advance for the telephone town hall by calling McNerney’s office, 476-8552 or 925-737-0727 by 5 p.m. on Tuesday. A representative from the office will return calls Wednesday night so people can participate.

Hersh said calls that get through to McNerney are chosen based on the topic of the question, to make sure a variety of concerns are addressed. While there is no way to confirm the identities of callers, Hersh said that all callers are Congressional District 11 residents.

“These are regular residents that received a phone call and wanted to participate,” she said.

These people seemed nice. And they drove all the way to Pleasanton. I wonder why they couldn't get their questions answered in person instead of by phone?

??

The operator probably wont take my questions again so I will just post one right here. Question for Jerry. Do you really expect to get re-elected?

It would be, but a news blurb on NPR said they offered free healthcare at a clinic and guess who was there?

The fact is Congress would like to pretend it's not a problem. But the biggest and costliest mistake would be to pretend the problem doesn't exist.

That's precisely what the Liberals are doing, right now. The proverbial ostriches. At the expense of our future tax dollars and tax increase.

I would like to see a plan first.

It would be nice to see Americans be treated FIRST BEFORE the illegal immigrants. Resources should not be drained by those who broke the laws?

They would send you home with the bill and you would have to pay it, whether you were there illegally or on vacation visa.

But the reverse isn't true about illegals in this country.

The trouble we are getting into is that liberal Congressmen and women are trying really hard to brush that fact under the carpet in order to push the Nancy-plan.

Right Jerry?
« shelly13 wrote on Monday, Aug 24 at 05:44 PM »
I agree with you. This is not the plan. Some people just use the argument that"we don't want to pay for illegals" and Im saying we already do. Things need to change. If they need emergency treatment, give it then send them home. You're right we need answers.

What happens to us if we go to another country and get hurt? Do we have to have vacation insurance or do some plans cover costs out of country? If we get hurt in a socialized medicine country, do they pay for our care? Anyone know? I think some plans here cover us when we are out of the country, but not all. Anyone have info on that? What if we were in Mexico illegally? What would they do???

Yes, we do pay for the illegal's healthcare and that's what's wrong with the "plan". We are not getting those answers from our Congress. They are trying to tell us that we won't have to pay for illegal's healthcare. And they are telling groups representing illegals not to worry.

At the same time we the taxpayers, are also being told not to worry about the cost of illegals. They need a better plan. You can't run a country by saying let's push the cost of this under the carpet for now.

When was the last time someone tried to sell you something and told you not to worry about the cost of it? Just wondering if you would agree to something that got more expensive after you already agreed to one price?
« shelly13 wrote on Monday, Aug 24 at 05:15 PM »
Who do you think pays for the illegals now? Yes, we already do.

Does not matter where you get the toenail fungus medication from...none of it works.
« BargainingChip wrote on Monday, Aug 24 at 04:26 PM »
Hope people are aware of the healthcare lies there sure seems to be a healthscare going on right now.

Most of the 47 million uninsured are opting out of health insurance.

An equal number of them are undocumented, illegals and "the plan" doesn't account for these issues.

Doesn't sound like much of a "plan" if you ask me.

« BargainingChip wrote on Monday, Aug 24 at 04:23 PM »
I hate to say it but with healthcare I think we're going to end up paying for a lot more and getting something totally different. Did anyone hear a story on NPR about illegals getting free healthcare in the US. Yep the Dems are telling us we won't have to account for that in "the plan". I just read an article that said Sarah Palin wasn't entirely wrong. And the folks at MSNBC don't want to talk about it yet.

Isn't that what got folks upset at town hall meetings in the first place?
« Lulubelle2 wrote on Monday, Aug 24 at 03:54 PM »
Mu husband ordered medication from Canada for stubborn toenail fungus because it was hundreds cheaper.

Guess what..it didn't work. At all. They say you get what you pay for..or in his case you pay for what you don't get.

I'm not sure how many lessons we can count in this story but there is more than one.

Thank you, American Congressmen and women for your efforts to help the economy of India! We love Jerry McNerney and Nancy too, all around the world, as we will be outsourcing your American "IT jobs" to other third world countries and exploiting what we call 'emerging markets'! Very kind people you are to consider us. Please send more "IT jobs" from the American Congressmen and women!

Don't forget to have your medical staff, paramedics and nurses call as they find the needs for technical support when using

medical technologies. Thanks again, Jerry!

Sincerely,

-Sanjiv from Punjab

Perhaps Mexico and Canada are not "owned" by the "investors"? Most curious to know how many lobbyist, special interest groups and investors having control in their government....(how many investors in pharmaceutical companies?)

Influence sure is powerful.

Tort reform being 'off the table' tells me Obama's health care thing is a joke. Add to that that drugs cost one third what Americans pay if bought in Canada or Mexico. If Mexico and Canada can do that, why can't we?
« ConcernedNeighbor wrote on Monday, Aug 24 at 09:03 AM »
Wish the Congress would look at list of prescriptions and make sure their plan covers all of that.

They ought to look at the diversity of populace bearing different kind of disease. Sickle Cell for example.

I worry this will only cover basic health problems (after changes and trimmings) and the panels will take time in evaluating diseases, costs, consultation, and then procedure on treatment for the patient. How is all of that going to save money?

Present plan is shoddy at best.

Redo it! And do it right!

About the Jobs, McNerney, I know Obama said there would be "million" jobs but was not SPECIFIC on where jobs would be placed.... could be in China, India, Brazil, anywhere! Or even million VISAS?????

All throughout his campaign, he wasn't specific on anything!

Change..... what kind???

Hope.... are we going to lose it?

blah blah.

Come on, McNerney, be a Maverick. T

During the last "phoney" meeting...

I laughed my a$$ off when McNerney said he would pay for the healthcare bill with 'IT jobs'.

I don't think Jerry knew what he was talking about but I gotta love that Jerry.

Just keep talking about sending more jobs my way, Jerry.

Ya got my vote. (not shown: head bob - side to side)

Here's a song from 1969 that puts into perspective the democrats' health care scam and reaction from older adults who were kids back during the 60s. What comes around, goes around. The song was Steppenwolf's 'Power Play'

=============================================

What gives you the right for you

To stand there and tell me what to do

Tell me who gave you the power

To stop me from livin' like I do

Remember if you plan to stay

Those who give can take away

Don't bite the hand that feeds you

Just one time I'd like to be somewhere where

None of your clever lies fill the air

I'm tired of your frozen smile and your voice of tin

We just might all gang up on you

Turn the knob and do you in

Remember if you plan to stay

Those who give can take away.

Don't bite the hand that feeds you

This never ending power play

"Tween Jealous greed and vicious hate

Is grinding us like giant millstones

But it can't be our only fate

It's time we got our heads together

And let'em know that we're awake

Those in the dark, you know they're no longer blind

They're breakin' from your strangle hold on their minds

Those that can see don't need no one to cross the street

Be careful who you're pushin' round

They just might find you obsolete

Remember if you plan to stay

Those who give can take away.

Don't bite the hand that feeds you

The problem is that McNerney can't answer the question "Where is the money coming from to pay for this?". I mean he can't explain it without lying thru his teeth. Nobody trusts politicians anyway. The public views them on a par with Charles Manson and OsamanBin Laden. Personally,I would'nt trust a politician to change the toilet paper roll in my bathroom. I think the reason McNerney does telephone questions is so the caller can't see him smile while he's lying.
